RE: Looking for an Ultrabook for Linux and Development
On this blog https://blogs.gnome.org/uraeus/2017/07/13/fedora-workstation-26-is-out/#comments
I asked: F26 on a MacBookPro: When can we expect better performance in the power management specifically “suspend when you close lid”?
I would love to switch 100% to Fedora but issues like that on the laptop prevent that.He replied: We are looking to improve the state here and are talking to various vendors about how to improve collaboration around things like battery life.
That said for an outright linux-hostile hardware vendor like Apple it is next to impossible to get to a good state in terms of being able to promise users that hardware from that vendor is going to work well.
So yes power management needs to be improved and we are working on that, but also users need to accept that there will be linux friendly hardware vendors like Dell or System76 they need to buy from and not from a hardware vendor that has zero interest or is outright hostile to Linux working well on their system. -

I was talking to a So Cal colo sales guy...datacenter power in So Cal is the among the most expensive in the country at over 9 cents per kWh.
That's still less than half what I pay.
That rate was their cost before markup!!

RE: Install NextCloud 11 on Fedora 25 with SaltStack
Finally figured out what the "problem" is/was?
It all works as stated in post #1 so long as you use the DVD ISO: https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/26/Server/x86_64/iso/Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-26-1.5.iso
The default firewall zone with this ISO is "FedoraServer" (which is used in the salt config)With the Net install ISO: https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/26/Server/x86_64/iso/Fedora-Server-netinst-x86_64-26-1.5.iso
the default firewall zone is "public" -
Scanning PDF's
You have multiple network scanners & you've created file shares so folks can scan & retrieve those files when they get back to their desks.
Looking for some better ideas or how to catalog the pdf's, make them searchable or just a better system altogether.
Ideas, critique's...all are welcome!

RE: Fedora 27 Beta...why not!

I'm not searching for a "complete" solution, I'm asking for an API to possibly use on top.
Beyond that, oVirt is a but ugly in some ways (probably because there is not "complete" native stack for KVM
I know you aren't looking for a complete solution.
I thought you might look at oVirt, see how they are doing whatever they do & then you would do it "better" -

Easiest way for me to create a bridge is via Cockpit (see image)
I kind of hate how easy Cockpit is making everything, lol.
They've realized some of us need that GUI!!
But on a serious note, I agree, I like the direction that Cockpit is headed. -

RE: Salt Stack communication issues
@fuznutz04 You ran into this "problem" because you used the netinstall iso.
With the DVD iso FedoraServer is the default. -

@tim_g said in Server 2008w Hyper-V infrastructure: needs upgrades!!:
Why not just a single modern server? Something like a Dell R730xd would do it all so easily. They really aren't much more than another modern server. The expensive part depends on the hard drive / ssd setup. Still cheaper than two servers.
Edit: Depending on budget, a R630 may be better. Mostly due to smaller extra costs adding up. The R730 warranty is a little more, for example. But some Rx30 would be good.
That is the plan. The second server is a backup server.

Linux SMB provides AD - most things can't tell the difference unless there is a specific feature of AD 2016 the LOB needs.
This ^^ is worth taking a look at!

Oh you mean literally a backup server. Any reason you can't use one of your current servers for that job?
Yes, a backup server.
I believe the 2x Power Edge 2950's are better off in the trash bin!

sudo dnf install openssh-askpass

Ooops brain fart of the week...
I wasn't paying attention, I installed openssh-askpass on the host instead of my workstation....(that was pretty stupid)
All is good!! -
RE: Ubiquiti - piss poor customer service
@marcinozga While I feel your pain, I'm not exactly sure what/why you are complaining!
Great support cost money.
You can't want cheap inexpensive product + great, timely & fanatical support.
Those things don't quite go together. -
RE: KVM in Production - Build it yourself
@stacksofplates said in KVM in Production - Build it yourself:
I have 12 KVM hosts in production. For the very few machines that have stateful data, I use either the backup options built into the software/service that's running to a mounted location, my script, or I use ReaR. The rest of the systems are stored in Git.
ReaR is cli but is really easy to automate.
I ran an oVirt all in one before and it was really slow. It was on my DL380 with 96GB RAM and dual quad core Xeons, so I don't think it was the box. Bare KVM is just fast and easy.
I'm with @JaredBusch on this one, no way this sounds user friendly or easy to use.

RE: KVM host: Failed login attempts
My bad, my bad....
Last week I was doing some testing & I set a port forward on port 22 to this host.
Ooops, I forgot to remove the rule.
