    • RE: Office 365 Licensing sanity check

@beta said in Office 365 Licensing sanity check:

Am I reading correctly that I can mix and match different subscriptions? For example, can I just buy the small subset of users that we need to ensure compliance with the advanced O365 licenses like E3+E5 Compliance add-on? And for majority of our users who don't touch this type of data a simple Nonprofit Business Standard?

I am not used to non-profit licensing, but in CSP commercial licensing you can mix any kind of license within the same tenant.

      Awesome!

We were not sure they were dBase files. Even Oracle database uses .dbf extension for data files.

    • RE: Large File Sharing

Lucidlink may work. I have not tried it yet, but looks great.
      https://www.lucidlink.com/
The files are stored on cloud object storage and shown locally thru a virtual filesystem, accessed on demand with a local cache. This long video shows its capabilities and addresses some questions: https://youtu.be/hTM6b-Tk2jQ
Around 14:18 a movie is copied to the cloud while simultaneously played on another workstation while it is still not completely uploaded (bad wording, I know).

The demo obviously uses high speed internet but they say they are optimized for high latency connections. Still, lots of things to check for real world usage.

      Edit: Fixed URL

    • RE: Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider

      @JasGot
I am an indirect CSP but I do not handle any non-profit organization.
My customers can see the subscription but they cannot change the licenses assigned to it from the Office 365 Admin portal; they need to request the addition/subtraction to my company or use the portal of my direct CSP. They can request the cancellation of a subscription but we need to authorize it.

The client is able to have subscriptions with more than one reseller and directly with Microsoft.

      @JasGot
We have moved many clients from other CSPs without needed to migrate anything: It was just an administrative thing, no lock-in. There was just one client that needed a full migration using BitTitan, but it was a special case involving a merge.

On the other hand, once the client accepts the link we are given management access to their tenant and we are able to perform many administrative tasks on behalf of the client.

Is it for asynchronous replication? I know it is for synchronous.

      Which tool?
DRBD as the standard asynchronous replication option for Linux

      I would say:
lsyncd for user mode, simple, rsync based solution: https://github.com/axkibe/lsyncd
csync2 for multi-host synchronization with conflict detection: https://github.com/LINBIT/csync2
MARS for a kernel side solution (DRBD alternative): http://schoebel.github.io/mars/

SpamExperts (warning owned by Solarwinds): There is one option where the price is per domain, no limits.
It is not perfect, but if you take some time training it it works very well.

      Well, it does cloud 🙂
Take a look at it, it does work. We use it for those cases when a Veeam VB&R is not an option

      Edit:
I forgot: reporting is not very good. I mean, the console is multi tenant and shows both success and failures but I would like better reports. It comes with an API so eventually we will build whatever we need.

I know it is not exactly what you want, but Comet Backup Enterprise comes with a central console that can be hosted in a VPS and both local and cloud backups. You may just ignore the cloud backup and use it to backup to local USB/NAS/whatever: a local repository can be configured per client location or endpoint. Take a look:

      Things like:

      • Microsoft SAM programs are voluntary services...
      • A compliance audit is a mandatory review of a company’s use of Microsoft’s products and services...
These compliance verifications are initiated across less than 5% of Microsoft’s licensing customers worldwide

      But ignoring things like:

      • We believe that SAM can be a strategic advantage for all our customers

On a second look, it seems like 1 server agent is 1 license under VUL. Better check the calculator.
The new Starter Edition available under VUL might be interesting if your work load is 20 or less and Standard Edition works for you.
