I picked up the Final Fantasy 7 Remaake & it's first DLC. It was "on sale", but I went ahead and bit the bullet anyway.

It's definitely a retelling of the game, keeping some of the more important high points. I'm not that far into it yet. But it is definitely worth the money if you're a fan like I am.

I haven't picked it up yet because I just don't have time to play it. I'll be keeping my eye out for when all 3 episodes are released so I can get the whole story-line instead of just 1/3 at a time as well.

I generally don't have time to play games too much, except in short 30 minutes spurts here and there. The fact that you CAN PAUSE cut scenes is huge for me since I'm primarily a PC gamer and there's a sad number of games that don't give that option.

The other thing I like is that in the remake, you can save pretty much anywhere at any time, so that helps too.

It's been put off to long..

upgrading the Ubuntu 20.04 to current... wonder what I break in the process.

That'll be tough potentially as some of the steps are no longer provided by the repos.

It wasn't horrible - I had to search up the process since it's a process I don't do often. But changing LTS to Normal allowed updating...

Okay, that only works sometimes. Depending on how out of date it is and where your mirrors are.

Get beyond the LTS to something really out of date -- say a full LTS or two behind and yeah, that will be a fun time.

@dafyre said in vLANs random question.:

The short answer is you would get the Router to route between the two VLANS, and fix it so that only the Payment devices have access to the internet.

if this was an on prem system, that would world. but this is a cloud system so both need access to the internet..

In that case, if they both have to be on separate VLANS, make sure the router / firewall doesn't let traffic cross those two vlans, but still allows communications to the internet.

To simplify things, put them both on the same VLAN. That is what we did per recommendation from a vendor at the time from my last job.

    • RE: What do you use as an identity provider?

We use WSO2's Identity Server here. It's... not terrible, but can be a real PITA to get config file settings and web page customizations to stick across upgrades sometimes. It's not too bad to configure after you get past that bit.

      Works great with AD.

      https://wso2.com/identity-and-access-management/install/download/?type=docker&msclkid=0c38cb5eb66c11ecb17747fc16fc0f22

Link above takes you to various setup types, not just docker.

About to get outside and do some filming. It's a "gorgeous" day. I could use some not gorgeous days for a change, though.

Wanna trade? 54F here, been raining since midnight, gonna keep on raining...

Man, 54F and rain sounds like nice. I just went to my salsa class and it is 96F and humid.

One day it's 70 and sunny and in thirty-six hours it snowed...

Are you sure you don't mean 36 minutes later it snowed ?

If you don't have any type of MFA or don't want MFA configured for this, I'd use ZeroTier. You'd run into the same issue with any kind of OTP / MFA, wouldn't you?

That's what I have been doing with CloudFlare and their API, are you doing something different?
I even apply it to current web facing servers so I don't need to open port 80 as well.

We don't always have CloudFlare. If we control the server and not the DNS hosting, it can be complicated.

True. But even Godaddy has APIs for this now, lol. If SlowDaddy can do it, I'd suspect that some of the others do as well.

Messing around with software raid and mdadm.

Good stuff right there, add a little LVM and you've got a great storage stack.

What I'm wanting to do when redo my lab server is not use the hardware RAID controller and Linux handle the RAID. I'm practicing on some VMs first.

      MD or ZFS?

      MD

After having done MD a time or three, I'm now using ZFS in my home lab. I love it!

Had my interview this morning - it was an interesting interview.
I was interviewed by the Sys admin and a Level 1 tech.
they asked some troubleshooting questions, asked about why I got into IT and what made me choose them. Things seem pretty relaxed there, a its a lot like what I currently do but with the ability to move up. Though I feel like it's another entry level position - I wouldn't be starting at entry level , more intermediate help desk/ Jr Sys Admin.

Considering taking this one - if the stuff aligns.

What kind of pay raise or cut are you looking at? Being relaxed at a job you spend most of your waking hours at counts for a lot, too.

Making rookie mistakes even though I know better

Sadly it is a thing that happens. It's how you deal with it after the fact and what you learn from it.

In theory though - the user should not have lost any mail - or at most - a few hours worth... In theory..

Absolutely - I owned up to my mistake, fixed it, and apologized to the user. Luckily, this was a user with a far lower volume of mail than say, our President & CEO. In this case, nothing appears to have been lost, except for possibly a couple of internal messages that may not have been delivered between yesterday and today. I also learned that before hitting the save changes button when modifying licenses, I really need to take 10 seconds to verify that the correct apps are selected in addition to the correct licenses. Much quicker and easier to do that than to deal with recovering a mailbox later while trying to keep the user calm and assured that they haven't lost everything.

After it was all said and done, the user didn't scream at me and was happy, so this turned out to be a minor inconvenience to them instead of a major issue.

The important thing is that when you own up to your mistakes, you do NOT let the user berate you, no matter what the mistake.

I had to shut somebody up. They were not quite a C-Level exec at my last job because a GPO was eating people's files. We knew the problem, and made the campus aware of it, and then set about fixing it.

This guy wanted to yell at me the whole time I was in his office about how much money I was costing the campus, as if the problem was only mine. I finally got fed up and told him that I could work on his computer here and fix it without him yelling at me, or I could take it back to the office and fix it later that day. He shut up pretty quick.

I told my boss about this guy, and it turned out there had already been a number of complaints against them. He was gone a few months later.
