Why do these units state they work with all 1996 or newer except hybrid or electric?
I only own hybrid cars.
Probably different onboard communications protocol?
Check it with SpeedTest.net and see what you get?

If you have two computers powered up, online and working but you can't ping from one to the other, the best thing to do is to confirm you have the correct IP address' before spending an hour troubleshooting your network config.

In my experience with it, it has often corrupted randomly and to the point that it's own snapshots are no help, nor are VMware Snapshots.
How could it correct VMware snapshots?
I guess it's more that BtrFS doesn't detect the corruption early enough and our VMware snapshot are nothing but snapshots of corrupt data... That's about the only way I can explain it.
General risk with hypervisor level backups. This is a huge reason for either local file based or what I call devops backups. They are at a higher level, so there is way more opportunity for this.
But if the system was okay when you took the VMware snap, it should have been okay when you restored it. Regardless of corruption.

For the host, OBR10 almost always. If you have an exception to this rule of thumb you'd know it (somebody here would likely say it, ha ha). 
I would also do one big VMDKfor the SQL server VM, and partition the disk.... Use a 2TB disk (just throwing a number out there)...
256 GB = C:\ -- OS / Applications
1024 GB = D:\ -- SQL Server Data
512 GB = E:\ -- SQL Translogs / BAK files
256GB = F:\ -- SQL TempDB

Check /etc/selinux/conf
change the line that says:
selinux = enforcing
to
selinux = permissive
If you are doing a home Lab and don't want to pay the Microsoft tax, I'd also suggest XenServer. If you have a Windows 8/10 Pro license and want to tinker with Hyper-V, there's that as well.
I'd stick with XenServer though. My current home server is Hyper-V and I am planning a switch to XenServer soon.
