It's time for all cities to install their own fiber and allow the ISPs connection to that. Think of the power grid, one grid, but power/internet can come from anywhere.

The big issue with this is that you now have two people to complain at when you have issues, the city and the ISP, cause you have no idea where the problem is.

Naw, our politicians enjoy their salary from the ISPs too much to allow that to happen. Can't go around doing whats in the best interest of the citizens, it would be unheard of

I was switching one of my customers from Frontier to Logix. Frontier messed up every possible way they could and I had to call them repeatedly over multiple days with 45 minute hold times. Everyone I know with FIOS has said their experience has been worse since Frontier took over

In "at will" states, the firing without cause is pretty much meaningless,

I don't know who is telling you this stuff but it's totally false. First, nearly all states are effectively at will. Those that are not, are basically at will. The US is nearly an at will country. Firing is ALWAYS meaningful, VERY meaningful. When you fire someone, YOU are the deciding factor, not them. You can never claim that they quit, you can never claim that you fired them for cause, you can never not pay unemployment for them. It's a very, very big deal.

Unfortunately it doesnt always work out the way it should. I got fired from a job because I was starting college classes even though during my interview they agreed to work with me on my schedule. I had communicated with them regarding availability before scheduling my classes and they just told me to let them know when I got my schedule. I had been there 6-8 months and was one of their top performers. They changed their story 3 times (after i successfully proved them untruthful each time) during the unemployment process & appeal. They didn't even show up for the appeal and I still lost. I even had to file a Texas Wage Complaint because they tried to hold on to my check too long.

@IRJ it depends on how the company is structured. So for me I won't get paid out for the remaining 4 days that I have since I haven't "earned" them yet. You earn them based on the amount of hours you work and when you leave, they can pro-rate that amount. It is perfectly legal.

yea i wish it was prorated. I get it as I earn it, so every 2 weeks, I get 10 hours of ET. I can use it as I earn it, not before. Texas isn't known for protecting workers, so its probably state specific.

2 weeks is what you give every time. No more, no less.

Every new employer will appreciate this and understand the two weeks notice.

As far as the employer you are leaving may beg for 3 weeks or a month. In my opinion you have no right to abide by this. By giving your two weeks you are already showing them a grace period. Employers have no problem laying people off without any grace period so never feel obligated to give any more time. Many times employers will walk IT out the door the same day anyway.

My employer requires 1 month of notice otherwise you are not paid out your Earned Time (Vacation days)

Now that is how you harness wind power! Geez, up here in the northwest in USA it gets windy on the open farm lands but that's nothing compared to the ocean winds. They should put up generators in Florida. When a hurricane rolls through they'd be super charged if they didn't get totally destroyed. 😄

Guaranteed that in FL, some crackhead would try to steal the wind turbines to sell as scrap metal for crack money. Couldn't be much tougher than ripping copper pipes out of a wall, right?

You underestimate the resourcefulness of a broke crackhead. 😉

So true. We had some in Memphis that were stealing copper off of live power lines. I still feel bad for the people who had their entire house destroyed by crack heads breaking the drywall and stealing the copper power lines. Thank goodness scrap prices have gone down, so its not nearly as bad anymore

Accessing landbased power lines and going offshore are two completely different ball games.

true, they would need some kind of multi crack head human bridge to cover that much water. CRACK HEADS UNITE! FORM OF.... BRIDGE!

Can you pull CAT5 with the existing CAT3? Often you can do that pretty easily.

This. You just tie the cat5 to the end of the cat3 and as you remove it you also pulling in a new cable. Half the work. EX girlfriends dad taught me that when I was younger (he was an electrician)

yea I always tie the old drop to the new drop, makes it so much easier (unless they stapled them to the studs - mostly residential issues - special place in hell for those "helpful" people). If you cant pull through that way, get some string and tie it top and bottom. Make sure the string is 110-120% the length of the drop so that you have wiggle room.

I've always wondered if anyone has rigged up some PVC piping in a clever way to make cable drops easier or something akin to it. Obviously when there is no sheetrock. I was thinking something you can adjust from outside of the wall to guide the cabling. Would be an interesting project but definitely not cost effective ^_^

Yea i love pipe drops. we have some here for the 2 story drops. the top of the pipe is above the wall plate in the drop ceiling

I dont do this for cat drops, but when im running usb extensions inside of walls for touchscreen wall mounts, this is the way to go.

For us that is AMD and im very happy about it. I agree, my personal preferences normally dont matter when its not my money. Yea I've been a fan of AMD for a long time. Its a shame how Intel was able to effectively screw them over and their market share (and got away with it). I would love for AMD to make a comeback, we are a mainly AMD shop (except servers unfortunately)
