@Joyfano We have a Lynda account, and I'm taking that course there - Scott sums it up pretty good, but it sure does it fill in the blanks.

@scottalanmiller I was thinking a giant would buy them and dismantle it - access to 6 million users for marketing, development, etc...

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Yea, but I don't think that community is going anywhere - as well as the annual conference. Here is what will happen: They will be sold within 2 years to a giant (HP is my guess) and it will carry on as a free program for a while, until... who knows...

Right on - it's amazing the number of "startups" sharing a house to utilize Google Fiber. -

Kansas City is hopping with IT Jobs. What is your experience (years/technology, etc...)?

RE: So You Want To Retire Rich eh?
Well Scott - if you were able to get a 6 percent return on 1 million and you had no debt, it might work.

Prepare 3 Envelopes - oldie but goodie
A few years ago I was hired to replace a retiring veteran in IT, and on his last day, he handed me 3 envelopes. I asked about these and he told me that when things got crazy and I didnt know what to do, open the first envelope and it would help me out. Then he said that after a while I would run into another bind and for me to open the 2nd envelope for guidance. He then told me that I would no doubt encounter another crisis and for me to open the 3rd envelope when that happened. So a few months down the road a situation came up and I was clueless so I opened the first envelope. It simply said, " Tell them you are still new to the position and it takes time to build your own footprint in this business but you are almost there." I did this and to my amazement it bought me some relief from upper management. A few months later, I again had things go haywire and opened the 2nd envelope. It simply said, " Blame everything on me. Tell them I had gotten soft in my execution and it must be the reason for my retirement." I felt bad to do this but he suggested it so I did and it worked amazingly well. Finally a good bit of time passed and I again ran into a bind and just didnt know what to do and opened the final envelope. I slumped in my chair as it said: "Prepare 3 envelopes."

RE: Cloud Storage - Recommendations and your expierence - can Pertino fill this need?
@Carnival-Boy said:
Can't comment on Pertino. Of course, there are loads of cloud storage offerings but my only experience is with Trend Micro SafeSync, which I hated, and Livedrive.com which I quite like. So our remote workers now use Livedrive.com
Does livedrive allow local copies for offline, then sync? version control? easy folder/shared folder setup?

RE: Cloud Storage - Recommendations and your expierence - can Pertino fill this need?
The sync issue was the 1 item I was concerned about. Plus, the users need to use a folder structure for "Personal files" and "Shared files". The reason I thought about Pertino was the "always on" effect. But as far as syncing, I think that would be an issue if you are looking at accessing these documents from a phone, surface, laptop, etc... I see the Windows OS environment syncing just fine, but what about the phone or other non-windows devices?

Cloud Storage - Recommendations and your expierence - can Pertino fill this need?
We need cloud storage for several users (on/off road with laptops) - Microsoft OneDrive looked good but if fubars when you try to get it to work on different hardware - for example, we can't get it to work on a Surface Pro 2 (wtf?). Also, it takes 24 hours to change permissions (wtf?) While researching this, I thought about Pertino. What if, you used Pertino and the end user had access to their documents wherever they were? Would Pertino be a good solution instead of paying for a cloud storage provider? Can the end user have a copy of their documents locally and when connected to the network, it will automatically sync as if it were on a domain, or am I asking too much and should continue looking for storage providers that give me my solution:
- need users to be able to easily access files via explorer using a file/folder structure
- Need to be able to securely share files
- need to update/sync when online
- Need access offline (on a plane, or no internet available)
- Need to access from phone/laptop/surface/desktop, etc....) from anywhere
- Centralized management
- quick security control
8 encryption of files
Can using Pertino give me this or am I needing a very versatile cloud provider?

RE: Discussion Room - Pertino
Wow - this is a plethora of information. I've read all of the posts and now have learned more than expected - I was looking for Scott's video, can you throw that link in here? I didn't see it. Thanks for all of the input, this is a great resource - now, can we take this post and file it as a "whitepaper" of sorts, or just leave it as it is for users to search for?

RE: Odd VMWare issue
What plug ins do you have installed? Check to confirm there are no issues with those. Have you tried this to different LUNS? I assume this is from Vcenter since you said you tried the template - does this happen from each Host as well or when installing to a particular host?

RE: Discussion Room - Pertino
Does the agent get pushed down from the Central console? Can security/access be configured at that point? Where does the network get added into the mix?
