      @IRJ said:

      Removing the start menu makes anyone a better tech. Whether it forces you to use keyboard shortcuts or powershell, it makes the tech more efficient.

      Either that or IT may not be for you.

      I might disagree with this. The evolution of Server management has come full circle. I'm from the OS/2 - DOS Lan Manager days - and... I saw Windows go from command line to GUI at the NT stage. Now it's gone to Powershell. Hang on, GUI will make a return in 5-8 years. But for those of us who have had it both ways, I'm more comfortable with GUI for most things - but find PowerShell scripts useful - especially for Exchange. And I do like my start menu and I use Classic Shell on my Windows 8.

    • RE: Discussion Room - Pertino

      Do I install an agent on each machine, and control this from a Central Server (I'm assuming web based, cloud administration?)?

    • Discussion Room - Pertino

      I always wanted to do this in that other Community, but it never happened, so I will start it here. We have so many new technologies, and for a lot of us, we don't have the time or resources to touch them - but as with Pertino, WebRoot, and others, I have always wanted to get in and figure out exactly what it does and how it works, and have some of you tell me how you use it. So the point of this discussion it so have a laymens explanation of this technology.
      I know Scott uses this, and others I have seen - so what would be cool is to hear how you set it up, and how you use it and most importantly, how it helps your business. I will be in meetings most of the morning, but I promise I will come back and read every post and then insert questions.

      Lets start with Pertino

      It's a retake voucher - that's good if you planned on taking the test and fail it - it's a free retake. Since I don't have any plans on taking the test - I'm gonna pass. Hopefully something like this will come out for Windows Server 2012 - that I will do!

      I want a minion! I'm gonna check it out Scott - I'm not a good test taker. But this may be a good brain exercise.

      Great post - this has motivated me to jump in the water with you Joy. I'm gonna start my Nix/Nux adventure and with setting up a media server at my house. I'm lucky to have some pretty strong hardware (a Dell 4U Rack Mount Server) to install on. @roguepacket - thanks for all the links above!

      Quality Customer Service. I'll take an IT pro that wants to make things better for his clients any day over the know-it-all asshole that thinks he is not replaceable. If you strive to provide the best service you can to your client (end users, supervisor, company - even the janitor), then you will do the things necessary to maintain that effect- study, test things, offer services with a positive attitude, and learn to say "no problem" with honest discussion about getting the results.
      Never lie, steal or manipulate. Always do the right thing. Never jump ship just for money.

      Sorry about the previous post, still getting use to this community. I meant say "holy jamoly" Nic - you got some go fast parts on that there network! lol!

      The funny thing is how much of it they give me access to. You'd think they'd limit my pipe to something reasonable 🙂 On the side of our IT department they do block things like IRC and Steam, so I can't just do whatever I want.

      Steam on your network would be awesomeness!
