Does FreePBX have a SMS distribution feature? Like you could text a DID and it redistributes to whoever is on the list?

This could be an awesome solution for her. Setup an incoming RSS email address, anything from sender X gets added to the RSS feed.
Maybe coupled with https://www.open-tickr.net/

Also, Outlook recurring reminders are great, they have a little task bar deal that can be displayed too...

@dustinb3403 But it's his boss, and it's only for her... If she can't edit a txt/xml file, she likely wont be able to do anything else technical.

RE: 'Ticker' at bottom of the screen
I'm being dead serious here, have you asked her if post-it notes would work? If she needs a reminder to tell the customer to have a good day or that toilet paper is 10% off, it seriously could be the correct solution. I have coworkers that have up to 10 post-its on the monitor, phone, etc. at any given time. We also use label makers to more permanently attach certain things like "Transfer * Ext = VM" right on the phone...

Yes, in this case no one uses the computer, it's just setup for display. No one except her uses it.
So YES.Sounds like a post-it note on the monitor is the correct solution here
A post it doesn't scroll information on the bottom of the screen.
Correct, it doesn't scroll, but it can display static information, which is what you're describing.

RE: Remote Control Software
@wrx7m Right, an agent is the SC software installed on each machine, which varies per plan. $300 = 25 Agents, $600 = 100 Agents, etc. I believe you can have unlimited technicians with any of these pay per agent plans. I could totally be wrong though...

If he doesn't like spending, then I can't imagine he will spend the money on Screen Connect.
And they having to travel to different sites because they have no remote software? That's pretty crappy...What they spend on him driving for 1-2 days could cover the cost of screen connect remote access for 25 machines for a year...

I think it is around $600 annually for one tech.
I believe it's unlimited techs. I don't have this, but as soon as our LogMeIn subscription is up, this is what we're switching to.

RE: Remote Control Software
Don't forget about the Screen Connect remote access packages if you don't need the other support options. Install agents on all machines and have unlimited access to them.

RE: Synology DiskStation DS713+ transfer speeds
Ah, you're talking about reads, I can get 90Mb/s on my super old DS213j with 2 spinners copying a single large file, writing to an older laptop with a 7200rpm drive. 15 definitely seems slow.
-
RE: Synology DiskStation DS713+ transfer speeds
@mike-davis If they have 4 users writing a million smaller files at once I can definitely see it bogging down to an average of 15 MB/s with 2 spinners.

RE: UNMS vs Unifi for a deployment "today"
@gjacobse Looks like he's asking if UNMS is production ready for the EdgeMax line of routers, not it's ability to manage Unifi products.

RE: New laptop recommendation - Mom compatible
@wrx7m The WD15 (USB Type-C) has been decent, but there's a huge shift in how it operates compared to the docks of old. First off, I had to change a couple BIOS settings to get it to work at all. Then when you hit the power button, you have to look at the lights on the laptop to even tell if it's on, then like 10 seconds later the monitors turn on and you can finally see Windows loading. I'm assuming that the downtime is because the drivers aren't loaded yet? Then the other weird thing is that the dock installs it's own ethernet adapter, completely separate from the one on the laptop itself, with its own MAC address. I ended up having to set a static IP on that interface because it wouldn't pull and keep a reservation I made for it for some reason, it would intermittently drop connections and then pull from the DHCP pool (we have a messed up process, don't ask lol). Other than those couple of things, it's been good.

RE: I can't even
We use LogMeIn to remotely support our equipment installed in our customer's facilities. We've been having problems with intermittent connections on this new machine we installed and we've been going back and forth with their IT guy for a couple months about it. Today he decided he was going to prove us wrong once and for all that his network is perfect and there is definitely no problems on his side... so he called us and said that he watched a youtube video for 10 minutes straight on the computer and didn't have a single problem, so it must be our software.....

E5480 from the Dell
We just got one of our Controls Engineers a 5580, really nice laptop, I was slightly jealous. The 5590 just came out, and that's probably even better.
The WD15 dock took like 2 month to deliver for it, so I was installing different flavors of linux on it and playing around before I gave it to him, because he really didn't want it without the dock.
