RE: Time for a mobile phone upgrade

Interesting. This is exactly how I felt about Android devices. Granted I haven't had once since the Google Nexus 6P or a Galaxy S5 (man what a piece of shit!!!).
This is exactly my experience, too. I've had iPhones since the 3GS and I wanted to try an android phone, so I got the Galaxy S5 when it first came out. Broke the screen TWICE in a matter of 2 months (it was super fragile, I wasn't being any more rough on it than any of my previous phones...). I absolutely hated the interface, it was super jumpy just sliding the home screen left to right. 6 months in I switched back to my old iPhone.

Hypothetically, what happens if he convinced the customer to upgrade to Windows 10 all around and the issue persists? I don't see any references to where Windows 10 fixed the specific problem that he's having...
because we haven't upgraded the site to windows 10
Exactly, what if you upgraded the site to Windows 10 and the problem persists? What would the plan of action be then?
new equipment with a fresh windows 10 image.
The question was more posed to the other posters pushing the "Windows 10 upgrade is the only ethical and correct solution"
I know what your company would do lol that was clearly stated a hundred times :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

These are nice and I just took another look at them. It can be made to mount into a wall opening, but it worries my that it is only 24v. I always have a fear that some know-it-all will push 48v into and I'll end up having to deal with any problems it causes. So I pass on this one....... Especially since I just saw your next post!
I hate the 24v stuff, I didn't even think to check that. Glad you did

RE: zip and . rar files?
@scottalanmiller said in zip and . rar files?:
@marcinozga said in zip and . rar files?:
WinAMP was THE mp3 player on Windows. Alternative was.... I can't think of anything, windows media player, classic one, if that was your thing, but that didn't play mp3 if I remember correctly.
WinAMP came out in 1997. So it did predate the main alternative, which is VLC which is vastly superior as a product, free, and open, and does so much more (like video.)
As VLC was so much more than WinAMP, and just because I remember having MP3s without WinAMP during that time, I'm pretty sure that there were MPS music alternatives at the time, just we don't remember them now. WinAMP got all the attention, but it was also pretty awful.
VLC could do playlists, queues, gapless playback for music? (not that you said it could... I'm just thinking about my favorite features)
I don't remember VLC being good for music at all, which WinAMP was so good at. What it was designed for. WinAMP was also capable of playing video, but was an afterthought IMO.

@WrCombs Yeh. 7zip is really good, opens about 4 dozen types of compressed files and is free.
Unlike Winrar which
after a 40 day free trial will have to purchase and or Uninstall
WinRAR is like WinAMP.... just a joke that never had a place for actual use. Goofy, pointless paid software that was never as good as what was already there and free.
These are fighting words here. WinAMP was the greatest. It really whips the llama's ass.

RE: zip and . rar files?
If you're into Chocolatey, you can install with
choco install 7zip
, too! -
RE: Managing spam posting
Minimum reputation to make new topics? I know it's an old concept, and I believe it's already been discussed here, but it seems like it would be an effective solution.

.rar files are going / have gone by the wayside for the most part. You'll still find a lot of them on Usenet, but not elsewhere for for the most partIs 7zip easy to use?
Incredibly easy.

@bnrstnr SoaS has been around for a long time and is a solid option.
Because all she doesn't right now is slap the screen, externally attached devices may not be best though.
Yeah, my son just turned 4 and he's still not totally used to using a real computer, I feel like SoaS might be a good transition. We've had the Fire tablets for both my son and daughter since they were like 18 months old. Can't beat the price, especially on prime day/black friday/cyber monday/etc.

But anyways, I was thinking a kid friendly linux distro would be good for her, something that would help her to learn numbers, letters, programming, with some parental controls would be nice as well.
I've been wanting to try this for some time with my son. Pop in the thumb drive in my desktop when he wants to use it and not have to worry about anything getting messed up with my computer.

Disney sets record for highest-grossing with $7.67 billion so far
https://www.wfmz.com/news/disney-sets-record-for-highestgrossing-year/1100840768This makes me so sad.
Because its Disney?
Well, sure. But because Disney has totally given up on quality across the board.... going from making quality stuff to making the worst popular garbage ever (opinion I know, but it's so bad I'll no longer watch movies Disney is involved in, they've become a brand name of crap), they've taken their parks from ground breaking and oriented on customer service to just being overpriced six flags with gobs of stupid promotional stuff. They were a great company, and now the world would be a better place if they didn't exist.
That in doing so has made them more money than by creating good content or being ground breaking or whatever is sad because it shows what a horrific state society is in.
Meh, I feel the opposite. Kids love the stuff. The current stuff is great imo. Not as good as the classics, but in the same league. Nothing else comes as close.
The top recent favorites, not in any order, are:
- Toy Stories
- Frozens
- Moana
- Beauty and the Beast
- Coco
- Incredibles
- Pirates of the Carribbeans
- Alice in Wonderland
I know there are 4 or 5 more recent ones I can't think of atm off the top of my head. But that's not the point.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Walt_Disney_Pictures_films#2010s
Looking at the above list, we (My wife, two kids (4 and 2 y.o.) and I) love the following: (Almost all of the animated movies)
Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Monster's University, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Zootopia, Finding Dory, Moana, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the InternetThe non-animated ones make me cringe a little though

RE: Any Camera People Here?
Agreed here on Nikon comments. We have a D5300, I mostly use it in point and shoot mode, too. My wife dabbles with the other settings. I have briefly used some friends lower end Canon DSLRs and the Nikon was a better fit for me.
