This is absolute insanity... The way this government picks and chooses who to question and regulate is complete insanity. Let the market do it's thing, if people are that upset with Apple they'll stop buying their products. Simple as that.

RE: Ubiquiti - piss poor customer service
@marcinozga Dude, is this your first time getting a bad product from a bad reseller on the internet? You seem super salty about this for all the wrong reasons. You're mad that you don't want to return it to where you bought it because it will take to long, you're mad that Ubiquiti's only support for beta products is the forum... You pulled the short straw, it sucks, go through the proper channels and get it handled correctly

At the time of this post the XOSAN functionality wasn't open sourced so we were unable to test / implement it.
Looks like XCP-ng has already reached it's stretch goal for "bundled gluster support."
If their scheduling is accurate you could essentially have XO-SAN built into XCP-ng by the end of this year. -

Lastpass stores all subdomains as entries for the main domain
Since I've gotten my NGINX RP setup and a few sites behind it, I've noticed that LastPass always wants to save credentials to sites as example.com instead of cloud.example.com or unms.example.com
It's quite the PITA... anybody experiencing this or know of a solution?

RE: Looking for a self-hosted file share tool
This is exactly what we use Nextcloud for. We used to use Citrix ShareFile, and our users are having no problems with Nextcloud since the initial setup kinks were fixed (all of which were my fault :loudly_crying_face: )
Edit: we don't share nearly as much "out," as we do receive files from our customers.

RE: Updating Fedora 26 to Fedora 27 with DNF
While trying to upgrade a 512 MB Vultr VPS, the upgrade was failing on the
dnf -y install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade
part. After some quick googling, it appeared that since I didn't have a swapfile and only 512mb of memory, the upgrade wasn't going to work.I ended up adding a 2GB swapfile and it went off without a hitch.
I added the swap file like this:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile1 bs=1024 count=2,097,152 chown root:root /swapfile1 chmod 0600 /swapfile1 mkswap /swapfile1 swapon /swapfile1

RE: Non-IT News Thread
It's still not even that easy to say "the fire is hot, don't touch", opioids are hugely over prescribed. 4 out of 5 new heroin users get hooked on legal, prescribed opioids first. A regular person with some injury/ailment, coupled with a shitty doctor, could easily end up hooked on the stuff...

This. After you reboot, pay attention to the STEAL time. I've never noticed that in the display before... In your glances pic above, steal % is at 48%.
I had to go google it to see what it was, lol... The short version is that steal % is how long your VM has to wait until the Hypervisor gives it more CPU time.
This article, though dated, seems to give good info.
(Understanding CPU Steal Time)This almost sounds like I have a noisy neighbor on my VPS?

RE: Tech Support Search choices
I use duckduckgo also. If it's something I know ML people use or talk about I'll usually run a
site:mangolassi.it search terms
otherwise I just search it normally on duckduckgoYou can also do
site:mangolassi.it site:serverblah.com site:spicewhatevs.com search terms
to search multiple sites at onceI still don't trust the nodebb searching for whatever reason... probably irrational

Veeam set up to back up to a Synology RAID 1 NAS with enough storage to meet your recovery point objectives.
Backup file destination should be password protected with read-only access for all accounts but admin and Veeam user.
A pair of NAS devices set up identically could be used to provide an air-gap for the backups.
A small single drive NAS/external enclosure could provide a similar setup.
StarWind Virtual Tape Library set up as a backup destination that can then trickle the backups up to BackBlaze would be one of the least expensive off-site/cloud solutions.
well said! thank you very much.
And doens't mean a damned thing because you never gave any actual detail.
That's your opinion, if Phlipelder is selling me a product. I already start discussing with him the details while the other sellers still asking for questions and doesn't seem to have an idea. I feel most of you guys have an idea but choose to do the "play hard to get" approach. Lol.
If this was anyone working for me, they'd be fired after they perform a full audit of everything they've done to date.
I'm not really sure you know what you are talking about? Usually an audit will compose of requirements > Audit > correction necessary based on last audit. There is no firing in the process. You could be referring to a different thing and it seems i'm on a different page as well.
He's saying that your approach to this is reckless. You're not providing important details of your environment or even wanting the best possible solution. It seems like you're looking for somebody to sell you snake oil. If you worked for him and he discovered your process, you'd be gone.
The people in this thread are asking for specific details because they legitimately want to help you find the best solution. If you want VM snapshots, there's going to be a different best product than if you want to backup databases... It's all relevant, regardless what you may think.

RE: Fitness and Weightloss
Down 17 lbs. My goal right now is 220 lbs. Started like June 4th-ish.
The first week isn't even fair, it's so misleading... I stopped drinking pop and eating like an asshole and melted off like 10 pounds.
If I get there, I'll probably set a new, lower, goal.
