How the F does a turned off computer/VM need to be licensed? Does this mean that full backups of VMs each need their own licenses?! If so, I'm so screwed on licenses...

On a completely unrelated note... About damn time we get an official rackmount kit for edgemax devices lol

RE: What's the best DVD ripper right now?
Maybe you should make an ISO if they're not encrypted or protected? This will certainly keep the titles and menus intact.

RE: Xen Orchestra - Community Edition - Installing with Yarn
@Sid Yes, the following should do it. I would start with Ubuntu 17.10 though. I'm testing it out right now, about 3/4 of the way done. I'll let you know if there are any snags.
sudo bash
sudo curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Jarli01/xenorchestra_installer/master/xo_install.sh | bash -

RE: Uses for VPS
@bbigford They have a "Storage Instance" tab that is always sold out, I was lucky enough to grab one like 6 months ago. They've been sold out every time I've logged in since then.

RE: HDMI wall Plate and Jack issue.
Put a $130 Ubiquiti camera pointed right at the HDMI port, whoever breaks it can now be held responsible. You'll probably never have to fix it again with a camera on it.

RE: Synology DiskStation DS713+ transfer speeds
@mike-davis If they have 4 users writing a million smaller files at once I can definitely see it bogging down to an average of 15 MB/s with 2 spinners.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@momurda It was direct from Amazon! The chat support lady was like "Let pull up the order so I can report the seller" then she's like ohhh it was us, I'm so sorry, new one will be there tomorrow.

RE: 'Ticker' at bottom of the screen
I'm being dead serious here, have you asked her if post-it notes would work? If she needs a reminder to tell the customer to have a good day or that toilet paper is 10% off, it seriously could be the correct solution. I have coworkers that have up to 10 post-its on the monitor, phone, etc. at any given time. We also use label makers to more permanently attach certain things like "Transfer * Ext = VM" right on the phone...

ha. . . you should email and tell him you have his homework. .
I did. I messaged him on FB. I doubt he'll respond. It looks like him and his wife used to run a computer repair "company" of sorts.
I almost think that maybe somebody stole the laptop from this guy... Why would you ever leave incriminating evidence on the hard drive otherwise... or maybe he's just an idiot :man_shrugging:

RE: Today's Random Discussion Point: Are Wigs Just Hairy Hats?
@dustinb3403 said in Today's Random Discussion Point: Are Wigs Just Hairy Hats?:
No, I'm saying hats have some form of protection. A baseball cap can help to protect your eyes from sunlight. No wig is designed with protection in mind. They are designed as a fashion piece.
If this were a wig it could protect your eyes, and could be a squishy top providing better protection than nothing at all...

Nextcloud large file upload issues
I've recently installed Nextcloud 13 via Jared's guide here to a Vultr storage instance.
I have no problem uploading files directly to a folder in the web interface, but if I create a "File Drop" shared folder, then uploads bigger than just a couple MB to said shared link fail. Is there some setting for the file drop that I'm missing? I'm testing a ~245MB ISO file as a test upload.

This is actually surprisingly easy to do on accident... Intel Graphics Ctrl + Alt + <arrow keys> rotates the display. I believe there are other shortcuts for different systems.

RE: Nextcloud 13.0 to 13.0.1 Upgrade Failing
Using @JaredBusch's script should set all the permissions correctly.
#download the script wget -O ~/selinux_config.sh https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sorvani/scripts/master/Nextcloud/selinux_config.sh #set it to executable chmod +x ~/selinux_config.sh #execute the script ~/selinux_config.sh

If I blow away windows and install KVM, and then later decide that I want a windows 10 VM, won't it have to be licensed? Or will it somehow know that it was once licensed on that machine, even as a later VM? I dont think it would know, and would therefore need a new license.
Pull the key from BIOS. You can use it to activate the VM.
I had no idea you could do that. Thats awesome.
choco install keyfinder

RE: Networking and 1U Colocation
@tim_g 10/10Mbit is brutal... also, "unmetered" but 3 TB monthly transfer limit? I guess $29.99 is pretty cheap, but damn.
Probably considered unmetered because it would take 32 days to transfer 3TB at 10Mb/s lol
