RE: FTP download from a Host with poor connectivity
You can resume downloads automatically with Filezilla and FTP or HTTP.
Do you have log info to show you if the remote server exhibiting broken behavior (such as sending permanent error codes) that would prevent aresume from working?

Think of an SBC as a voip firewall and/or voip router, depending on its configuration.
It's a proxy, not like a firewall or router. A bit different.
There are overlapping features and use cases, but they are not one and the same. An SBC can use provide a sip proxy for registration but it is not required.
The real point I guess is that FreePBX currently does not provide a "full compliment" solution for roaming users.
To that end, a SIP Proxy or an SBC that provides a mobile access solution can be used to register roaming devices and then those extensions are registered from the Proxy or SBC to FreePBX as a static IP address, eliminating the need to rely on responsive firewall.

RE: MTU size > 1500
Right, good ol... ping -f -l xxxx to the sip server up address, xxxx being the mtu size. Lower and raise til you find the correct size that replies below the integer that doesn’t.
Pretty common wherever early adsl existing behind a firewall that added header for SPI.

RE: Mapping OneDrive Business to a drive letter
@nerdydad said in Mapping OneDrive Business to a drive letter:
These are all just webDAV pointers without synchronizing OneDrive to all of the computers.
You are correct. We couldn't afford the storage that it would take for us to sync up everybody's OneDrive profiles across all of our servers, plus the backups that it would cost us. Dedup would help, but wouldn't be enough.
Onedrive has gotten better with Files on Demand but I would only recommend for user's individual files, not file shares. There is no file locking, and its just a mess for larger data sets. Those webdav scripts are a joke, wasted a lot of time on it. Your users will hate you.
For situations like these I have been using Azure Files. The SMB 3.0 stuff allows you to map drives directly to the cloud and you get the usual SMB features (and file locking). You can also install a premise server for caching of larger active datasets. SMB 3.0 includes all the good stuff from the Storsimple acquisition. Combine with Azure Domain Servers and Azure Active Directory, lots of options.

RE: DKIM records Office 365
You only need to do this if you want to set your own key.. If you do nothing, MS automatically creates a private and public key pair and enables DKIM signing.

And the EWS limits being increased has never made an Outlook import for a large mailbox go faster or finish for me. But will be interesting to see if it does for you. I just wouldnt bet my lunch on it.
So you are saying you saw the same thing as me .. they said the took off the throttling, but nothing actually changes...
They dont remove throttling but they increase the limits per your specific, kindly worded request
You would want to ask for throttling limits to be increased for 60 or 90 days in a new ticket and we always include these details (which came from MigrationWiz I think)
I always ask for xx (number of users) to be set for concurrent migration as well in the ticket.
EwsCutoffBalance = Unlimited
EwsMaxSubscriptions = xx
EwsMaxBurst = Unlimited
EwsMaxConcurrency = xx
EwsRechargeRate = UnlimitedAnd it did not seem to help Outlook import on a specific 15GB mailbox I recall, I had a dozen larger ones that also needed to complete so I moved on to MigrationWiz on that particular project.

RE: Potential Office365 (Exchange Online) Throttling Issue
A side note, per MigrationWiz support docs, you can no longer use Get-ThrottlingPolicy powershell commands against EWS/365 I had never thought of trying it before now...

RE: Phone system

@bigbear Yeah I was thinking it would probably save a lot of money for us to not use a hosted solution. The phone lady says we pay around 20k a year for our legacy cisco system. Even a cloud setup like Eddie does should be doable for us.
Thanks for the info about SwitchVox. Someone else told me that their demo doesnt usually reflect what they are selling. As in, you have to buy a lot more to get what the demo shows. So who knows. I was asked to help again as they did not make a decision last time either.
I would expect $4,000 price tag for a small business with 10 people, plus the phones... so not sure how they would approach a school system but certainly would be a waste of money.
And I agree a paid hosted solution for a school system would likely be a waste of money mostly because of the per-extension pricing.
FreePBX is a PITA to update IMO, I would get a guy like @JaredBusch on retainer to handle it monthly whether on premise or in the cloud. Even in the cloud I bet a school would have very little traffic. You would be in control but its handy to have someone who can jump in with a quick fix where you might spend days trying to figure something out.

@scottalanmiller Just to be clear she is looking for the whole package. Including some sort of hosting, phones, call manager, various other features, and a mobile app for byod. That is what we are looking at.
Would like to setup a demo for you, ironically this is what are product does. I will post some screenshots. Provisioning, billing, logs, all in one portal.
Another thing that I can’t understand is why Freepbx hasn’t addressed its issues with roaming mobile app access.

FreePBX iOS/Android Mobile App in public beta now
Just wanted to share that you can download the mobile iOS/Android beta for FreePBX's Zulu now if you are a user.
This went online Wednesday August 28th
https://wiki.freepbx.org/display/ZU/Zulu+Mobile+InstallationYou can get 2 free licenses for your installation for free. Just getting ready to provision my phone to check it out.
The latest desktop version of Zulu has worked pretty well. There is a Slack/Teams feature that isnt bad, but since you cant invite outsiders to it its probably not going to gain much traction. The whole interface is pretty nice though.
I hope they change the licensing model from the $199 per 20 users per year to something per actual user.

Does Brand not even matter anymore?
This thread where we smacked down a fake marketer yesterday got me thinking about marketing and specifically marketing to IT professional.
I am about to spend time and money developing and marketing a "brand" and the most likely outcome is that I will create some bullshit that everyone will ignore. The "time" it will take this firm to create something bothers me more than the marketing. We're talking 90 days for a logo, brand, whatever BS
I think about "Vultr" vs Amazon, Azure and Digital Ocean. When you provide something to the tech crowd they typically will give a listen to a straight pitch. If they need what you got they will engage and give it a try. Then the community pretty much talks about what works and what is a waste of time.
I have thought about just going "Big Bear's VoIP and Network Supply Company". Maybe Bear's Voip for a domain. Maybe spend all the money on advertising and sending out some free stuff.
Or am I just getting lazy since I haven't had to work in a couple weeks? Bah! Does the brand really matter anymore?
@JaredBusch had mentioned the other day that even the better distributors out there like Baltic Networks don't really have anything going on with brand that makes a bit of difference.
Does it cost less? Does it ship fast and from a close location to where its going? Does anything else really matter?

RE: Who is Hostadillo?
@dashrender said in Who is Hostadillo?:
The only point of contention I see is that Scott used to recommend a company that I believe he had no involvement with at all - ASO, Vultr, etc (though maybe he owns stock in them, works for them, not sure - but I assume not).
Now, Scott is recommending a vendor that he does own. Does that mean it's bad, of course not, but the question is, will Scott ever recommend other solutions, assuming they are better than his?
I do see what you are saying. If I had went to the site and it was actively accepting sign-ups it would be a little more scandalous and maybe an apology would be in order.
However, I have been involved in a startup that
flat lined before it could produce any resultswent down in a blaze of glory, and later I wish I had kept my name out of it. Even though it was originally my bright idea.So I see it as a testing of the waters, proceeding with caution, as opposed to the type of fake accounts and marketing that
sometimesoften emerges in forums. -
RE: Start Dream Biz vs Start New Job
@MattSpeller I've done a lot of wholesale level sales with telecom equipment that stemmed from our primary internet/voice business. Looking at distributor to reseller pricing, its actually a bigger margin spread than many would expect.
I have always found when you are a step away from becoming a distributor for yealink or the like, your distributor will bend to meet pricing. Then you are left with no inventory and no overhead.
I have thought about putting best current market pricing online and drop shipping orders, charging a nominal $3 fee per item. This would allow the wholesale pricing to be transparent. Typical wholesale to reseller pricing is over 20% from what I see shopping around, and many times its much more.

Correct Settings For Hosted FreePBX 13
Running a vultr $20 instance. I am using the responsive firewall even though my inclination is to configure the vultr firewall for the explicit privileges necessary, mostly I want to do it the "FreePBX" way so I need some guidance.
I have configured everything as best as I can figure based on what I think the developers are intending to manipulate ipchains. My remote yealink thinks its registered, but it shows offline in reports - asterisk info - peers.
I am just going to attach a bunch of screenshots of my settings, hoping someone will see somethnig I have done wrong and point it out. Thanks in advance!
//well, I cant upload photos as it says I dont have a permission, so I created a google photos library...

RE: Does Brand not even matter anymore?
@JaredBusch I have thought about things like text-to-order and whatever would make life simpler for the buyer. I know with the regular customers I deal with I get a lot of texts and just ship things out to wherever they want.
Amazon Prime stocking will cost an Amazon merchant almost 20% and thats why I think you dont see the best prices there. But maybe sometimes convenience still wins?

Hi, I have established a new company and about to start looking for customers. Here is my website: https://nioss.co.uk/. Would appreciate a little criticism.
Checkout sites.envato.com I think its $4/month now. Really simple, looks decent, responsive. I made one before when they were beta took about 10 minutes.
Will get you something nice until you can get someone to do a WP site for you like hostadillo...

I gotta say also, the freepbx gui lead me to believe all the resources provided were maxed on my other hosted freepbx instances. I can't believe you can get by with so little.
Standard misreading of Linux RAM data. Use the free command on the CLI and you'll normally see that the RAM is essentially unused. A lightly used FreePBX system could be around 180MB while making calls.
Just crazy what's possible. I'll be the last guy laughing around this office!
We have incredible low voice network overhead for local origination because we have our own interconnects and later 5 switches in Cinci Bell closets. Part of that was because of the dslams we had around town prior to going wifi. We average .0025 on voice costs. The platform overhead has always destroyed our profits. Seems almost too good to be true.
