      RTO and RPO are points I bring up constantly, of course I call it business continuity/disaster planning, which we have none.

      I have AM and PM daily backups, which overwrite every few days, using fBackup program.

      300%

      Until the RPO and RTO can be determined, it's impossible to determine the level of redundancy and backup needed, as well if high availability should come into play. The next step should be to find these things out.

      Other than IT and my hobby of gaming, I'm an amateur voice actor. I'll retire from IT around 50 or so, then head to school to take that talent further. Once I lose some more weight, I'll be getting back into Krav Maga (I had tried earlier, but realized that I'm far too fat).

      Was that a consultant, or a Dell rep? Tossing a SAN at something's typically something I see from resellers. From what you've explained, it sounds like you're short on IOPS. With the modern technologies available for localized and distributed tiered storage, SAN wouldn't be the way to go. What's your RTO for these systems?

      I smell an opportunity for 3 ESXi hosts and VMWare vSAN, or 2 hosts with flash storage and Veeam cross-host replication.

      What? By the way what is the cost of NTG running performance gathering metrics or is this something I can do?

      If you can run a Dell DPACK for a 24-hour period over two random days, and get the analysis from Dell, I can take a look at your storage needs and formulate an effective strategy. That'll take about an hour for me to analyze. In the interim, I have a few questions for you:
      What's the RPO and RTO for these systems?
      What are you using for backup?
      What's the projected workload growth percentage on these servers over the next 3 years?

      One thing I have noticed about a lot of *nix apps are that the GUI's look horrid. LibreOffice could use a huge facelift. It functions a lot better than it used to be it still looks and feels the same, which is old. I don't want to use a GUI that looks like a GUI I used in 1998.

      If the functionality great, I'll ignore a poor UI (like GFI MAX), but if both are lacking, there really's no appeal for me to want to use the application.

      The Geekery have been trying to make Linux "happen" in the office space for the past 30+ years. It's not happening. Get over it. Behind-the-curtain business functions, monitored and operated by geeks hiding in a closet somewhere in the building? Sure; Linux is great. Something that I have to touch, and that other business people have to share and use? Forget it! It is NOT the tool for the job. Sorry. Go back to your closet and watch YouTube vids of League of Legends tournaments...

      Priceless advice there! I've tried Linux on and off for 14 years. As much as I'd like to love it, something always brings me back to Windows. As a sysadmin, I haven't seen anything like Group Policy for Linux. Perhaps I missed it somewhere?

      @Seth-Cooper said:

      Very limited, only logs on the policy level for short increments (up to an hour) and looking across the Juniper boards it looks like everyone states to get good traffic logs you need to do port mirroring.

      That's unfortunate.

      I finally moved my OneNote to OneDrive for business. Weird that OD is inside SharePoint or something strange like that. I had to do a convoluted dance to get OneDrive for business to show up on my W8.1. I saved the websites in Evernote that helped me get there.

      It's great that it's inside of SharePoint. You have control over the back-end of your syncing application.

      When you mention archiving, are referring to email archiving? Moving it to OneNote converts the email to an editable format, which would likely not hold up well in court. If you're looking at ideas for email handling, check out Inbox Zero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9UjeTMb3Yk

      @Nara said:

      Why not just create an iSCSI target and hook that up to your hosts? You could plop a VHD there and hook it directly up to your Veeam VM.

      As long as the NAS is stable and reliable, that would work well. I have one client with a cheap, flaky NAS that's been turned into an iSCSI target. It drops on a regular basis.

      Today is not a normal USA holiday.

      It's an official holiday of the US gov't and a bank holiday. Of the ten recognized US Federal and bank holidays, this is one of them.

      OK I stand corrected.

      I don't see it as a federal holiday: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/snow-dismissal-procedures/federal-holidays/#url=2014

      They say 6000 pages but I have gotten a ton more. I do use Economy mode but that is not what I was expecting.

      With all due respect, I'm going to call the BS flag. There's no way you could have pulled 2500% more pages out of a single cartridge.

      There's some info missing. How is this application being accessed? Are people going to be using RDP, PCoIP, or something else? Is this doing 3D modeling, or is it just the server component to a client installed on a local computer?
