HALizard - Cloned XenServer USB - Delayed NIC Recovery - R730 BIOS settings
-
So in completing my XenServer Two-Node HALizard server setup it's time to clone the bootable USB drives. I've started with my "slave host" as it shouldn't matter which host to do first.
I cloned the boot USB just fine, went to boot back up and the USB option wasn't enabled in BIOS. @BradfromxByte any ideas why? The system was powered off using the CLI and remained plugged into power. So there is that oddity.
The second issue is that when I booted off of the cloned USB, the management NICs and Bond NICs weren't available to XenServer they simply were not present.
I gave it a minute thinking, OKAY maybe it just takes a few minutes to sense the connection, but nothing. OK shutdown the host.
I plug the original USB back in, and initially its Management and Bond NICs weren't available either. I could test from the console to ping out, and localhost all successful.
After a minute or two the session restarted and the NICs were available, and the system shows in XenCenter and Xen Orchestra. @halizard any ideas why this might be?
So two questions, why aren't the setting applied in BIOS on these units staying after effectively a system reboot (I assume I've missed something)? and how do I tell DRBD to more quickly confirm that the "other" host is in fact online? Or is this XenServer just taking it's sweet time doing a hardware check?

@DustinB3403 Did you ever figure this out? How are you liking HALizard?

@halizard doesn't appear to support XS 7 yet. They've stated it is due to a bug/issue with XS.

@Kelly I think @DustinB3403 is still running XS 6.5

Yes I am on 6.5, sorry busy morning.
I'm unable to update to XS7 and use HALizard.
As for the cloned drive issue I was able to get it to clone successfully. I made a post around here somewhere on how to clone the USB using windows.
dd works, if you're doing so from a separate linux system (non-running XS)

That was more of an FYI directed at you.

@Kelly I knew there was a beta version out, but wasn't aware of the outstanding bug in XS7. Thanks!

As to a two-sever pool, interestingly Ive been working with SC at HA-Lizard over the last few weeks and we've come up with a better way (I think) to support a two-server pool. I've done a lot of torture testing and think there will be a more robust implementation in the near future. I'm particularly interested in that we now have several two-server pools and there is no need to expand just for the sake of supporting HA. Stay tuned for more news on this! For HA to work, you'd still of course need shared pool storage.
