            New system is, in its first few minutes, using 50% more cache than the old system had memory total!!

                  Yeah, that issue was "pre-migration" and carried through with it. No idea what is causing that.

                      Both memory and CPU overruns, but memory more than anything. Now we have more threads, faster threads and tons more memory (which we are really using, too.)

                      It was really a combination of things. Memory was the biggest obvious issue, but the MongoDB 2.6 platform is quite a bit slower than the 3.x series and we changed database engines under the hood as well. So even though memory was our "bottleneck" on the old platform, we've sped up things that will reduce latency as well.
