Windows Phone :(

My Samsung Note Edge got water damage over the weekend so I have been using a Nokia Lumina 521. I understand that it is a cheap Windows Phone so I am not dinging it on performance. The OS itself is what sucks. I am running Windows 8.1 on it.

The tiles suck. There is a reason people like icons vs. tiles. Microsoft should know better since people are obsessed with desktop icons and icons are the mainstream on Android and iOS. You might think the tiles look pretty, but they suck and just cause you to do more scrolling.

No apps. I knew this before i even tried the Windows Phone, but I didn't expect the app selection to be so poor. I am lucky to find 10% of my android apps. It makes everything more difficult when it comes to managing VPS servers, various email accounts, cloudflare, and alot of other apps that make administration easy.

Internet Explorer... No explanation needed. I am sure there are other browsers, but IE is terrible.

Ineffecient scrolling. When I go through a list of apps, I get a vertical list of A-Z apps. I can scroll through Android and iOS much faster because I may have A-D on the same screen, and if I want to get to R, I only have to quickly scroll 3 or 4 pages. On Windows I have to scroll pretty far down. It only takes an extra second, but that matters in the long term.

Yup, I used the Windows Phone and their touted tiles are total garbage. So useless. The interface is pretty bad. Worst of the three phone systems.

I prefer Android, but iOS is easy to use and makes sense for a mobile OS. Windows Mobile OS does not make any sense.

We tried to give it a serious try around here but Windows mobile OS sucks no arguing that.
I am happy with IOS I have tried to adjust to Android on a tablet but just can't seem to.

@Minion-Queen I think it's just a matter of preference. I have android devices and I would not get an iPad because I like to have my android devices setup a certain way, and I know exactly what to expect. Not to mention the experience of picking up one device , then picking up another and having them setup nearly identical increases productivity.

I also noticed that Windows Apps cost more for some reason. There were alot of $3-5 apps that looked like complete garbage. I bet they wouldn't even sell for $1 on iOS or android.

There are so few to sell, they have to make money where they can. And if you make an app for Windows, you own the market, so can charge whatever you want. At this point you pretty much only have the very active fan base left on Windows Phone, if even they are still on it, so the few people you have as customers generally aren't concerned with the cost any longer.
It's a lot like Mac OSX, you can charge more because your users are pretty dedicated. So cutting the price doesn't help sales, so you don't.

I can understand that and feel the same why for IOS. I started on it and am heavily invested in it. Everything I have syncs and works together. But of course I am also not trying to do tech work from them

@IRJ curious if there are any redeeming features - I would have thought tiles would be nifty to show an update roll for some things like twitter or whatever

I have been a user for 1 day. I am getting a Galaxy s6 active tonight so I haven't really dove too far into Windows. I am sure they are some nifty features, but I doubt they can bail out the bad features.

They are too small to be useful for updates and too big to be useful as icons. Having used the Windows phone for most of a year, my take away was that it wasn't totally awful compares to Android but was quite awful compared to iOS and had no redeeming features. It was simply bad at everything in comparison to its competitors. It lacked any feature to make it conceivably on par, it just lagged in every way.

I'm sure it doesn't something better. It seems fairly snappy on bad hardware. So that is a plus

iOS is pretty snappy on old hardware, too. But who runs old hardware today? And is Android slow on old hardware? I've not tried, just wondering.

Android is loaded on cheap devices, too. But a cheap device with Android is an absolute dog. Even people who aren't the least bit techy will grow to despise it.

Lol I answered that before you even asked. It's like buying a PC for $200 vs $600. The $600 PC will still be able to run decently in 3-4 years. Where the $200 PC will never be able to run. Phones like the Galaxy S4 which is 5 years old is still ok. However, if you buy a brand new phone for $50 it's a dog.

All these Chinese companies skimp on hardware because anyone has access to Android. They just put the cheapest hardware out possible.

Bought a $100cdn tablet with android a couple years ago. I think it lasted a week before I parted it out for the scrap bin

$48 for a large battery, screen, digitizer (touch screen bits).... not a bad deal
