Expensive! We've done this early this year.
Well I didn't we got the specialists in, basically we didn't change the domain as it means going into the SQL database and changing a lot of stuff.
What we ended up going is leaving the underlining domain the same and just put an alias over the top with the new domain name. -
We'd be doing it all in house with our DBAs.
We've found a lot of SQL scripts that seem to make it pretty simple. Change a few overall changes and then every user needs to be changed too.

Be careful with Sql Reporting Services, It's complicate make it work with Ax, just change the certificate It's horrible.
