FreeBSD Comes to 64bit ARM Processors
-
ITWorld reports on FreeBSD now being release for the Aarch64 (64bit ARM) architecture allowing it to join Linux as a viable option for the new world of larger RISC processor based servers from the ARM camp. FreeBSD has been shown running on Cavium ThunderX 64bit ARM processor boards already.
The new Cavium ThunderX boards aren't just cool RISC processors. Their processors support up to two procs per motherboard and are up to 48 cores per processor! That's 96 cores in a two socket board!

Sign me up for one of these. I've been waiting on serious ARM-based server gear for forever. I want two, one running Linux and one running FreeBSD with 192 cores between them!

If you could throw enough RAM at these types of boards, they would be good for Containers / Docker, I'm sure... but what about virtualization a la XenServer, KVM, et al?

Xen, not XenServer, is already available on ARM. KVM I do not believe is working yet but might be.

And yes, great for containers.
