Tidal Wave vs. Tsunami

I've lived through a direct microburst - the same thing on land that is a white squall on the ocean. Let me tell you, it is terrifying.

We had a McDonald's nearby actually explode from the rapid pressure changes.

Yeah, rogue waves mainly happen out at sea, and they can be very destructive. Those are the ones that can catch you by surprise and, if you're oriented in alignment with the wave, can flip even large ships. Some have even been measured to have an impacting force of over 100 metric tons per square meter, which is far more than ships are designed to absorb.

Rogue waves happen wherever they freaking want to happen. Because they are rogues. They don't follow your rules!

Yeah, like in The Poseidon Adventure. Don't think I wasn't imagining that the whole time on was on a cruise ship.

Maybe it's to earlier, but exploded? Like the walls and windows exploded from the inside out?

Yes. The air pressure changed too fast and some, not all, of the structural elements blew apart. The roof, for example, landed on another building!!

That's some serious air pressure being forced into the building.

Oh yeah, it was insane. It is effectively a linear tornado. I was right in the middle of it. Cars were being blown all around, security door torn open, etc.

I was getting drenched by horizontal swirling rain in the middle of a hotel! There was so much wind force going right through the hotel lengthwise that the rain stayed in the area making a vortex lengthways in the hotel. It was completely crazy.
