TechNet: The Startup Script is Dead
-
I use GPP: Scheduled Tasks to push out a reboot on Monday mornings at 0400.
It is a great method for handling things.

GPO FTW!

I'm been saying that Startup Scripts and ADUC Home Folders have been dead for user. Many still insist on doing things this way though. GPP is way more flexible though and actually works better.

What do you replace home folder with?

Why is that better?

ADUC Home folder is consider depreciated (I believe it also uses logon scripts). GPP Mapped Drives can easily be fully automated by groups no need to populate a field.

If the Home Folder is using scripts it's all being done in the background. I've had setups in the past were I was not using a logon script of any kind, yet my home folder would still map.
Now, if you tell me that Home Folders only map at logon where GPP will continuously try to map each GP refresh, that might be a reason to change... but maybe not.

I need to finish configuring this... Home drives aren't mapping correctly over our Site-to-site VPN. I am fairly certain this was a known issue which GPP solves.

Yep. They don't get stored locally in any way as they aren't a policy. GPP does cache.
