SpaceX cuts broadband-satellite altitude in half to prevent space debris

Halving altitude to 550km will ensure rapid re-entry, latency as low as 15ms.
SpaceX has received Federal Communications Commission approval to halve the orbital altitude of more than 1,500 planned broadband satellites in order to lower the risk of space debris and improve latency.

OMG this is freaking awesome. That's an amazing latency boost and, presumably, easier to make the radios work, too.

but more difficult to keep in orbit. I wonder about the trade off

More drag will decrease unit lifetime.

Definitely harder, but they requested it, so I'm guessing not a big enough deal to be a major thing for them.

Spying whales and other undercover animals

First rule of spying - don't look like a spy.

The beluga whale - if that's really its name - found in Norway's waters can certainly tick that box.

Venezuelan authorities say they are putting down a small coup attempt after opposition leader Juan Guaidó announced he was in the "final phase" of ending President Nicolás Maduro's rule.

He appeared in a video with uniformed men, saying he had military support.
