Datamation: Why XFCE Beats KDE and Gnome

Saw this one in the news today and thought that I would share. Rare to see someone taking the time to champion XFCE.
-
@scottalanmiller I have yet to read it but no. Just no. xfce is a lighter environment but Gnome, bang to buck, beats all. Never cared for KDE. I will say, xfce is, again, the most lightweight but the flip side is it's missing a lot of things Gnome and KDE have. I know Ubuntu runs Unity now but was Gnome. Kubuntu is KDE and Xubuntu is xfce. Its logo is a mouse and gears for a reason. It's meant to be practical and light. Not fancy. I'll read the article in a second.

@ajstringham I don't know, having used all three plus Cinnamon and some others, XFCE comes out dramatically on top of Gnome in my book. Better interface, lighter, more intuitive. I don't know many aspects of Gnome that I would consider on par with it anymore.

Looking back to this years later since we were discussing this today. XFCE has come a long way, look at it on Korora these days:

Or this one from an older Manjaro release...

Still prefer mate over xfce. But xfce is my home desktop and it is good.
Basically nowdays my daughter simply opens chrome. I always poke a lot with shell so any de is ok!
I worked on a gnome3 de. It was good but there was too much of win key to go around apps...

@matteo-nunziati anytime that I don't use something heavy, like KDE, Cinnamon or Bungie, I default to XFCE.

I thought you used LXCE. At least that's what the lab was the last time I used it.

I did a little bit, mostly for other people, not for me

Ah ic. Makes sense.

Xfce on all the systems I use (opensuse, freebsd & netbsd)

Solydx is another Xfce distro too.
