Is it just me, or does calling BS on an poor IT decision make anyone else feel better about their day?
I don't go and look for items to call BS on, but when I do see it, or get replies from IT people trying to validate their reasons, like locking a drive with hardware based encryption, and then seeing them cry foul about it seems like they made a bad IT decision.
Critical company data shouldn't be kept on a user device ever. Use encryption to deny access to the system from anyone unauthorized, hardware encryption even, but don't keep critical data on the user device.
Make them connect to a VPN, 2FA the whole nine, this way you're never stuck with a "we can't get your data, it's on there, but we just can't access it because of encryption"
