This is how you burn down a colo-facility. . . lol
that was on of my thoughts.
the second to last post mentions that good colos have VPNs to private IP space inside the DC that can be used for iLo, etc.
That said - I still like the idea of a hardware firewall in front of my stuff, even though you don't get it on most VPS providers.
But in so few examples is a hardware firewall required. This sounds like the guy was just being cheap and didn't want to pay a monthly fee for an extra connection.
It's not just another connection, it would likely be a whole extra U of costs (the space, the ethernet port and power).
i.e. double his original costs. -

Yeah, we have remote hands and a KVM option in our colo. Under no conditions do we ever go there physically. This is a mistake made by people who use local colo and never figure out the purpose of a colo.

Yeah, so I was wondering about that too. If it's a high security colo, you likely don't have access - so remote hands are your only option.

Yup, I've only once used a colo where I had access. Lesson learned. Never again, LOL

No the lesson is a colo who allows any customer to just walk right in, is likely not a well established colo. Security is something that needs to be a top priority for any colo.
