Last summer I replaced my office machines that were 7 years old. I figured at that age they weren't worth installing SSDs in them as other hardware failures would make it cost ineffective. That coupled with an OS upgrade (need to purchase a license) made the new machines a better option. I'll probably look to replace all the spinning rust in 2 years so the second half of their lives seem more like the first half.
This is true, an SSD would be very beneficial. We have done that to a few PC's and a few laptops.
I will suggest this to my boss as our replacement budget is currently listing to starboard.
