Also, didn't you say he deleted ALL from the iPad? If he did delete all the messages, then there shouldn't be anything left to worry about anyhow.. so delete away and reconnect. Problem hopefully resolved.

Yes, ALL email was deleted. Not a single message left on the device.

So there is a bug on iOS, no matter what.

No, the email is everywhere, but he would never delete an account to fix something. Not worth discussing.

As AJ would say - OK then. .

Sure, we were just looking for ways around it 🙂

I know, but deleting the account will never happen.

What other memory hogs do you have?
              Photos, Music, Application data?

Does the device still show having data in mail?

Interesting - Just looked at mine: 1.7GB of Photos / Camera.

It shows 2.5GB in email, even though email is completely empty.

iOS 8 added a recently deleted section to your photos. They do not leave your device for 30 days now, unless you manually purge them sooner

Any folders of the Inbox still lurking around?

Just out of curiosity - who is his email account setup through? It's not a answer to the question,.. but curious.

It's their own. He works for a non-profit and all they have is some cheap POP system. No one can tell me what it is.

Any chance that could affect it?

It should not be. But as with any bug, hard to tell how big the impact could reach. Who knows what the issue is on iOS that makes it not clear space.

if you open a telnet to the SMTP port does it report what server it's running?

I don't have access to the SMTP info. I've not had access to the phone since the day of the initial post. There is no more troubleshooting to be done.

Well that kind of stinks -

As you directed me on some of the aspects of NPO and Email - you already know this...

They should move to Office 365. As a Non Profit (NPO) they qualify for much of the services for nothing.

Oh we know. They don't care about saving money though. They just keep giving money to this guy that is screwing them over.

Oh - While I saw that comment previously, I ......

Never mind then - There are solutions and then there are those who aren't interested... Moot point now I suppose. Just the side of my brain that wants to fix everything that is broken.. When I can't,... I have issues with letting it go.
