I disagree with this graphic.
Windows ME was the worst one ever. Vista was completely usable after SP1, I used it in my office for 3+ years - heck even a full year into Windows 7 release because I just wasn't having any issues on my office machine pushing me to upgrade.
When I did eventually upgrade it wasn't because there was a problem, but because my HD crashed, so I figured what they hay.

I don't have enough experience with ME to vote for it for or against on Vista, but, Vista was pretty bad. Compatibility issues, and a flow that just did not make sense. Fixed it all in Windows 7.

What flow issues?
Yes it had tons of compatibility and performance issues pre SP1, but after that, much less so.
As for compatibility issues - I really wish MS would do what Apple did a decade or so again, and start the base code over leave the legacy behind, perhaps include a VM with Windows 7 in it for compatibility, but the new OS be lean and mean.

The locations of control panel items, and the general flow of the OS, just never made sense to me. It felt much cleaner and less choppy in 7 and now 8.1.
Windows 7 Pro comes with a free XP Pro VM you can download from MS' website. I get what you mean though. -
I can't really tell Vista and 7 apart.
ME was a dead family member, released to the DOS line after it had been killed off. Not actually a part of any legacy.

It is funny that I had nothing but a good experience with ME. It worked great for me and I really hated giving it up. No, that is not sarcasam....it was stable for me.
Vista did have issues for me...namely, if I multi-selected files and then went to right click for a context menu, it could "sit there" for 2-3 minutes before giving me the menu. And it was bloated.
