99.9% of people don't give a hoot about open source. The complete control part can be nice, but it also means you have more work to do.
That's not true. Not knowing that open source is what they care about isn't the same as not caring. People care that food is healthy, even if they don't know what makes something healthy. Open source fixes many of the problems people find, they just don't realize that that ist he thing protecting them, btu they certainly care when they find out.
The control doesn't make more work, it makes less. It just is perceived as more because the work is before you start, not when you try to leave.

- It's open source.
- you have complete control of your data
- Actually installs and functions
What is there to install - I said use the web version. Granted I haven't - so perhaps the web version is near useless?
How do I use teh web edition offline when at a customer site? That's what I want a note app for, when I'm offline. Otherwise I have the wiki.

So I didn't know that there was a web edition and I just tried it. This is an easy one... the web edition is painfully slow. Of course the regular edition is slow, painful to actually use. But the web one takes way too long to open. Joplin is lightning fast, something I need for notes.

OK I didn't consider offline access on a laptop - of course mobile versions solve that.

That's good for phones. Typically I would use my laptop at a customer site offsite to take notes. Not a HUGE use case, but one where my desired use case (offline access at clients, and airplanes) is lacking.

I use Notion a lot. It's not open source but it's kind of a hosted version of Joplin.
-
I use Notes, built in to NC. I like it. Thought I'd give Joplin a try, I have never needed to use markup for notes, so it'll be fun to see how it goes.
I installed it on my Windows Desktop first.
Then on my Android phone. In less than 5 minutes I found two startup annoyances First, if you don't catch the fact that you have to save your changes in the Android App before you leave the screen, you'll be re-typing your NC url again!
The next thing I immediately noticed was after the first sync, I now have Duplicate Tags in the nav menu. For each of the factory installed notes, I have one for each of the two notebooks. I can fix it by deleting them, but still........ My tags are already cluttered and I haven't even made a note!
For those of you that use it on your smartphones, do you really take notes on your phones? I just can't find it to be productive at all. I guess my fingers are too big, or i am just too old!

I do. I like being able to take notes, throw it in my pocket and catch up on my desktop later.

Do you use voice to text at all?

That would solve my thumb issues!

I've been using Sticky Notes between my Android and Win10 PCs.
-
I'm really excited to start using this at work on Monday. Admittedly, I've never used Onenote or Evernote, so I can't really compare, but it looks like this will be perfect my organizing my meetings, project roadmaps and todo's.
Also the web clipper is really neat, convert a webpage into a simplified markdown page.

There is a Microsoft sticky notes app for Android?

Does it work everywhere or just on select OSes? I've never seen it. Joplin works on every major OS, which is a huge deal.

There is no Linux client. Not sure there's even a webclient.

I'm only using Win10 and Android as my personal devices that I'd need the notes on so I don't care if it's on anything else or not. Works superb for my case. Simple easy notes with no setup.

Dragging and dropping todos between notebooks - I really like that
