Tech History: Obliterase
-
Anyone remember Obliterase? They just crossed my mind and I decided to look them up. From what I can see, they appear to have been "Obliterased" themselves. They were a hard drive destruction vendor, but it looks like maybe they folded before they ever got off of the ground? Looks like maybe they evaporated four years ago.
Always find it surprising when a company folds so quickly. It takes a lot of money to develop a product, do marketing, attend conferences, promote, and so forth. Why do all of that work if you don't have the money to hold out till you at least go to market. I think that they must have run out of cash before releasing?
Just a footnote in IT history.

Even companies that have a great product or plan need paying customers. Since everyone needs to eat.
You may not need a lot of customers but a handful at a minimum. So this isn't surprising as it happens all of the time.

But that was what I meant... they should have known that they would need paying customers. So closing up after investing all that money, but before they offered the product for sale seems like they really miscalculated how to spend their money. Had they gotten to market and allowed people to buy it, maybe they would have made it. but they put so much money into marketing before releasing, then never released.

Like planning for a night out on the town, but never getting off the couch.

@DustinB3403 or planning for a night out on the town, and dressing up, calling all of your friends, pre-paying for drinks and dinner, running on credit card debt to do it, taking an Uber there, and then deciding not to get out of the car while all of your friends are waiting on you.
