For those of you who have colleagues that work mainly in Windows environments, or even if you work in windows yourself, but find yourself needing to connect to *nix boxes, the normal recommendation of using Putty for a terminal just doesn't cut it. Why? Because copy/paste is a pain. In my quest to find an alternative for Windows users, I stumbled upon cmder. http://cmder.net/

I found this about 10 minutes ago, sent it around the office, and so far, everybody loves it, because they can paste text directly into the terminal now without the need to right click their mouse to do so.

There are probably others out there, but this one works well so far.

🙂 But when you are in keyboard mode, it really is a pain though.

It's pretty rare that I'm in keyboard mode and want to copy/paste from somewhere else... how did I get to that window?

              Alt tab of course!

It's a personal preference for sure, but I hate right clicking to paste text.

And Shift-Insert doesn't work for you.

                        specifically, editing files with nano.

It's not different. Let's try this again... sometimes, people want to paste multiple lines of text, or something similar from a notepad on their windows box, into a file on a *nix box. This isn't possible with putty as far as I am aware of. This cmder software solves that.

edit: isn't possible using normal shortcuts that specific people are used to (Ctrl V)

I don't follow. How does cmder do that in a way that Putty does not?

                                          No one needs Ctrl+V anyway.
