Is Oracle Preparing to Release a New Sparc Processor
-
In 2015 Oracle released the Sparc M7 processor and in 2016 it released the Sparc S7. New GCC commits from the team suggest that work is underway on a 2017 release of the Oracle Sparc M8 processor. Sparc is the core architecture for the Solaris operating system, is RISC based and is the only processor that competes with IBM's Power 8 in performance. This suggests that Oracle is continuing with strong development and support for their own unique RISC high performance system architecture and will be continuing to work with Fujitsu on making some of the world's largest and most powerful systems.

Good stuff, I've long been a Sparc fan.
