the biggest issue here is the following:
average taxes in italy is 30-35%. retirements "taxes" are varying depending your kind of activity but stay around 20-30%. Overall we are around 50-60% in taxes. usually more on the 50% side. just consider that I've a really good salary and if you look at how much my company has to pay and how much I receive we have something like 50% is mine 50% is taxes for services or retirement.
Then retirement will be re-taxed at the usage time by 30-35%.It should include everything but state is defaulting (slowly) here and there is a lot of mafia/corruption. therefore you end up using a lot of private or mixed structures. So you pay part of medical expenses on-demand, you could pay school, and so on.
to have a proper life and a house both parents have to work full time. In Italy welfare is weak so your childrens has to stay a lot with grandparents to fill the time hole between school timing and work timing.
therefore, having so small time to dedicate to childrens you end up having a few: I've just one and constantly fell I'm not dedicating her enough time.
Scandinavian countries or middle europe countries are better in this.

I don't know Scott, I think being in the enterprise means everyone is just a guy who is an expert at 1 skill or app and would be helpless if dropped in a SMB. It's SOOO NARROW and soooo focused!
Lets look at the life of a dedicated "VDI architect in the enterprise and at how "Narrow" his job is.
- Profile virtualization and layering solutions.
- Storage (block for image management, and NAS for profiles or app layers)
- WAN optimization. Nothing breaks ICX, or PCoIP like an incorrectly applied DSCP TAG!
- TFTP/DHCP as you need to make sure those Zero clients pull down their image!
- Syslog, and some sort of log analytics platform (LogInsight, Splunk etc) as you'll be needing this to troubleshoot your platform.
- A hypervisor (and generally to a bizarre level as you'll be invoking features that the server guys don't use, and you'll be hitting the corner cases of scale for things like VMFS when running 200 desktops on a host, or vGPU pass thru).
- Applications. To deploy non-persistent VDI you'll need to know how to use visualized registries, application packaging (ThinApp, App-V, AppVolumes) and dark corners of the registry sometimes.
- Customer service! because if you don't know how people are using stuff and be talking to the users problems will brew...
- How to build training guides as you need to build training materials for your operate trainers to push out.
- Need to be familiar possible with MDM solutions to cover corner cases where VDI doesn't work as well as how to automate thi
- Networking. Proper VDI clusters tons of VLAN's and can often invoke some more obscure things like PVLAN's and DMZ's.
- Security. Get ready to learn NSX microsegmentation and automation. You'll need to learn vRNI or some kind of netflow analyzer to figure out what your ACL's need to look like. Also get ready to learn F5 or NetScaler to do your load balancing and edge inspection. Even if your not the guy managing the firewall rules expect to have to learn it anyways for when your edge security team forgets to open UDP for PCoIP, you'll need to know how to test and verify that the ports are open.
- DNS. Because NOTHING will work without this. Bonus points for learning GSLB deployments with this so you can do automated VDI failover to the DR site.
- Antivirus. Since normal regular agent based deployments will break a host, get ready to learn hypervisor based inspection tools and deployments.
Now it's true that some of these would be handled by other teams, but if you don't know how to explain your ask of those teams (or don't have 100% Competent people in those teams) get ready for your VDI deployment to get stuck for 6 months in ITIL change control hell.
BTW, I'm only joking. In some shops the VDI guys can often wear other hats too.
fact is: no one in smb need this. Just thinking of me: what's the VDI expert experience with label printers and label design, automatic lifters and troubleshoting them, web application development and deployment, printer services, fiber/copper wiring best practices, telephony and so? which is last time the VDI guy has tried to fit a project in <10k? including computing, storage, backup consultancy and software?
IMHO is 2 different worlds.
@scottalanmiller is right: VDI expert knows a lot and in deep, but the wrong "a lot" for a SMB.

7.5% FICA (federal Social Security and Medicare).
42.34% in what we call normal taxesAdditionally I pay
0.86% twice a month for health insurance
4.5% twice a month into HSA (health savings account to by my $5250 max per year out of pocket health costs - after which insurance picks up covered things at 100%)Before private savings I have 47.7% removed from my paycheck.
Now because Social Security pays out next to nothing compared to my current income, I save an additional substantial amount.
At the end of the day, I'm well below 40% of my wage left over to pay my mortgage, car payment, groceries, etc.
Of course this doesn't consider that in Nebraska, we have 7% sales tax on everything except non prepared food, and restaurants have an extra 1.5% on top of that.
So really that 40% is more like 35% or less. -

well this is included in the taxes paid for/by the employee. actually state is paying for them. Well, actually the company pays and then asks refunds to state.

it's the best, you always know what you are paying. The US has hidden taxes that you can never predict or verify.

Yeah I always forgot sales taxes because they are implicit in EU. When I was in NY for an holiday I gone mad having to add VAT to everything. here VAT is 22%, except for food: 4% and some special stuff (don't remember but really seldom) at 10%.

So the STATE is paying for their time away? In the US, the employer pays for it, there is no reimbursement at all.

Yes, some are refugees. But coming from an affluent country, we get seriously recruited by the Med countries like Spain, France and Italy. They go out of their way to encourage us to move over.

That's fine and awesome then, the company need only find a temp replacement for them. Or live without. In the US, saying that they keep getting salary implies the company is forced to pay, not that they are getting welfare for it. That never happens here.

OH the immigration to the US definitely killed off the American Indian culture (with the exception of the Indian reservations. Indian culture and western culture were basically incompatible, so one had to go.
I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm hearing this is the case regarding Muslims in the UK. There are sections of the UK where the police don't even go because Sharia Law is taking over. Of course I have no idea if this is really true or not, I don't live there - but it's what the few locals I know are telling me.
