Half this conversation was deleted, and it still sounds like a deal of a lifetime.

              Hook me up!

              (just kidding folks)

It is not a ruined topic nor is it ranting. It was nothing more than pointing out an obviously too good to be true scheme.

@aaronstuder said in Ranting about Windows Licencing:

@scottalanmiller It's wasn't about Windows, it was about BuyVM.....

Not if you look at your first post that you deleted, you pointed out in the OP that Windows was being given away for free by BuyVM. So every bit of this thread was about BuyVM and specifically the factors of BuyVM that you had posted about in this thread.

The title is now "ruined topic" but it is only ruined if the goal was not to discuss and learn, but to promote. Was this an ad? Was this paid marketing disguised as an honest discussion? If not, please restore. If not, it seems very fishy that having the company look bad would be considered a ruined topic rather than an extremely valuable one.

Are you being paid to promote them? You are totally allowed to do that here, but you are not allowed to do it deceptively. If you aren't being paid to promote them, then in what sense is discussing and learning about them ruined? As IT pros, this is absolutely critical information to have and understand when considering a vendor. So this cannot have been ruined if it was meant as an honest topic.

Bah. I was hoping for an opportunity to make a snarky remark about CALs.

LOL. That might be an issue, too. Some Windows hosting includes CALs, some does not. I didn't see any mention of it when they said that Windows was free, which doesn't guarantee anything, but is suggestive.
