Regular skype isn't tied into a MS account. And if you had an old account that was WAY before Microsoft owned Skype.
Actually, it is. Microsoft made me integrate accounts earlier today. It's new, maybe new as of today.
I opted to combine my accounts, but I don't think I was ever forced, and with the fact that she probably hasn't logged into that old account in years she probably will never log into it and see a prompt to move it to a windows account.
It's been at least 7 years. the email for the account doesn't even exist anymore.

$2.50/user/mo for screen sharing. That's a bit expensive when Skype is free (but doesn't work, so I get the issue.)
Works fine for me as does Google Hangouts.
Chime feels like, we're Amazon, lets make yet another product.
Depends, can you call me on it? nope, because MS has their accounts all broken. So in reality, it doesn't work for you, it just makes it feel like it works for you.
Danielle thinks it works for her, too, but people with her in their user list see her account broken and have problems contacting her and her account will semi-randomly get deleted and show up wrong with images and details from old accounts she doesn't have any more and she, too, can't get calls to work to some people.
Because the issues with Skype are account based, people often feel that it "works for them" even when they too are experiencing issues.
"People"? You mean you. No one else. Don't say Gene, because his issues are not isolated to Skype.
Yea,.. Because well - It's Gene

I think there's something deeper than just Skype on your computer, maybe even at the OS level.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Yup, Skype is showing all kinds of data.
Showing you a different account is not the definition of all kinds of data.
@scottalanmiller said in Amazon released Chime, skype alternative:
Nope, the two are one. If I delete the old one, it deletes the new one too. Skype feels that the two are a single account.
Nope, skype clearly has two accounts.

Nope, skype clearly has two accounts.
If you delete either one, both disappear. Add either, both appear. Call them two accounts if you want, but you can't act on them individually. That's one account to me. They are one and the same according to Skype's system.
Her account has always been like this. The moment she created the new profile, the two existed or died together.

I did, I removed it. It got so unreliable that I don't want to do business on it, and since people like to assign blame to the end user for issues with the Skype core system, no way do I want to be associated just because I'm the one who points out when the system is failing and pays attention.

@scottalanmiller Can you change the title of this thread to "Skype Troubleshooting"?

@art_of_shred has my creds to see if he can make Skype work correctly.

Logged in. Fixed in 5 seconds. Tested functionality to confirm success. Left. NO idea what was keeping that from happening when you tried to do it, but it gave me no issues.

Went beyond that... Bought a new HDD and installed Linux before going back to Win10

So you're really screwed now. You tainted a brand new HDD with Linux! Might as well just burn the PC and go get a new computer.

Only thing I can think of is that Microsoft switched my account this morning, so this might be a new one. Only change that has been made in a very long time, maybe two years since MQ took over managing my account.

Yeah, it "magically" worked for me suddenly because MS made a change this morning...
