Understanding Kaby Lake OS support
-
Hi,
So the recent news of AMD supporting Windows 7 with drivers, got me thinking a bit.
I am planning on an i7-7700 (non K) setup using this motherboard:
Z270 SLI PLUS
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-SLI-PLUS.html#down-driverHowever it does start that have drivers for Windows 7
I dont understand, can somebody shed more lights into this, cause I heard Skylake only will work with Windows 10.

Could you link the source where you read this information? I believe there's a misunderstanding

I agree, something sounds wrong. Although the simple answer is... stop using Windows 7. That's ancient

The new features of SkyLake/KabyLake will not work in Win7. This is mostly power state/efficiency stuff, but also USB controller support out of the box in win7 is nonexistent for skylake

Don't use Windows 7. Problem solved.

Just adding some more info to this thread.https://www.itnews.com.au/news/no-updates-for-windows-781-on-new-hardware-455321
Microsoft's recent Patch Wednesday updates had a sting in the tail for Windows 7 and 8.1 users: if they are running the older operating systems on new hardware, the updates will not install.
Â
Users with computers that feaure the latest processors from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm were met with error messages when using Windows Update to get patches, including:
Â
"Unsupported Hardware. Your PC uses a processor that isn’t supported on this version of Windows and you won’t receive updates."
Â
And:
Â
"Windows could not search for new updates. An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer. Error(s) found: Code 80240037 Windows Update encountered an unknown error."
