My boys are getting Minecraft for Christmas. The oldest is 8 so from what little reading I have done (I'm not at all a gamer) I found that I might want to set them up on their own MineCraft server. I found a couple guides on here, but the referenced PE, and my boys will be playing on Xbox. Do they work together? Do I even need to build them their own server? Is there a better way to keep them safe?

You cannot setup your own PE server anymore so there is that.

I believe that XBox is not the same as PE/Windows 10 Edition yet, but is supposed to be soon?

Honestly never tried it from a console, so no idea.

Pretty sure the consoles are their own thing, no running servers for them. I know that PE won't talk to the PS3.

The Xbox version is its own thing. It doesn't support 3rd party servers or Realms.

Be careful with them online if you let them play online. There are a lot of crazy older Minecraft people out there who love ruining younger people's stuff.

              On XBOX at least.
