Minecraft server for Xbox?

  • My boys are getting Minecraft for Christmas. The oldest is 8 so from what little reading I have done (I'm not at all a gamer) I found that I might want to set them up on their own MineCraft server. I found a couple guides on here, but the referenced PE, and my boys will be playing on Xbox. Do they work together? Do I even need to build them their own server? Is there a better way to keep them safe?

You cannot setup your own PE server anymore so there is that.

I believe that XBox is not the same as PE/Windows 10 Edition yet, but is supposed to be soon?

Honestly never tried it from a console, so no idea.

  • Pretty sure the consoles are their own thing, no running servers for them. I know that PE won't talk to the PS3.

  • The Xbox version is its own thing. It doesn't support 3rd party servers or Realms.

  • Be careful with them online if you let them play online. There are a lot of crazy older Minecraft people out there who love ruining younger people's stuff.

    On XBOX at least.
