If your boss says, hey I don't care where you are working from but I need you online at 4am through till 6pm.
You get to get paid for that entire time.

7 hours.Doesn't matter. Like @DustinB3403 said, you should have rights. If you worked for 8 hours and made 7 "billable ones", ... it's 8 hours of work.

@WrCombs What you do during the day doesn't matter. What matters is your boss said "be able to work from x to z". That means you get paid for it.
Billable or not is not relevant.

Tried a new dashcam today, Viofo A129 Duo (both front and rear). Good quality videos, even in the dark. Curious how good the parking mode works.
Cam is about 250 EUR incl. both cams, cables, polarization filter and a 128GB Kingston "High Endurance" microSD card. Not much compared to a Blackvue.

The point of your boss telling you to only report what you "worked on" rather than the total number of hours you were working.

That's not legal. You were "at work", therefore must be paid. They don't stop paying you when your boss talks to you or they make you go to a meeting, right?

No they don't stop paying me when I'm in the office.
I put 7 down because 1) I was in front of my computer until 4:00 pm 2) i spent time taking care of my son as well which would equal 2 hours of the work day not worked.

No, you didn't put down all of the time that you worked. You skipped the overhead time. This is one of those huge problems that IT people tend to have, we look for all kinds of excuses to not get paid for our work. Stop it, immediately. It's a crime for your boss to tell you to do that (he didn't, you imagined it it sounds like), and it's not actually legal for you to falsify it either. You were "at work" for eight hours. if they aren't keeping you busy, that's on them, not you. You were working during that time.
