wondering if I should go to the gym tonight. I know I should, but I have Zero motivation.
I've been doing early morning workouts, mostly weight training. I'm way too out of shape but even I feel a bit more energetic during the day.
Try like just 5 minutes of a jog on the elliptical trainer or treadmill, after your workout. Then over the weeks/months, slowly increase it by a minute at a time, but no more than 15 minutes.
I can barely do 5 mins on elliptical non stop. so I don't see myself going past 15 mins. Cardio goes after work out?
I was under the impression It was first. You can do cardio before, after or before and after. Whatever you are comfortable with.
OH ok. I thought there were "rules". I think that's why I'm scared of gyms. Because I'm scared to make a fool out of myself.
It really depends on the type of workouts you doing and how many times you are working out each week.
gotcha, I should look for a program or something to be prepared. Thanks
Since I love playing basketball, my workouts is more geared to it. Pilates is another exercise I want add to my workouts too.
One day I went into a Pilates class thinking it was easy stretching. That class wrecked me, it was hard.

I was under the impression It was first. If you weight train, you want to do cardio after. It's dangerous to wear yourself out before lifting weights.
Also, technically speaking, lifting weights is better than cardio, so long as you do it right (like keep heartrate up, etc).
Cardio after a workout also helps to "clean out the burn" from working out. Without getting into any real detail... When you lift, your muscles work and release certain chemicals. Keeping your heartrate up (like cardio) after your weight lifting workout is beneficial.

I still struggle with most the simple plank form, especially after doing other workouts.

Yes! I saw them w/paper plates so it I was like balancing paper plates that's easy. NOPE.

do I do like a quick run or just stretching first to warm up the muscles? Or is that the same.

A stretching fest before weight lifting is also dangerous. You really don't need to. There's no benefit to it.
On an off day, i'll go to the gym JUST to stretch and do a little cardio.
But you don't want to do it before lifting weights.... however, you may want to do a little (2 minutes) leg stretching before cardio.

Also, stretching before lifting can also cause a loss of strength.
There's real research to back this stuff up, so don't take it as i'm just blowing smoke. I just don't have the time to find it again and link it.
Over hte last 10 years, I've put a ton of work and research into this stuff.

I think that this is worth a read. If I was the CEO and say this thread, I'd be pretty unhappy and definitely not give this guy access.

This guy feels like he is totally focused on "owning the network" and "doing things his way" to the point that he's complaining about his CEO wanting to be in control publicly! He says that everything that is "normal" in an SMB is wrong, but gives zero reason for his beliefs. Basically, he sounds like a control freak that doesn't understand IT and just wants power and money.
-
I'm surprised that every single person jumped on and was like "oh yeah, this is bad" even though he didn't come up with a single problem on the network. Just stated standard, sensible things, or said things that made no sense like claiming that there was no firewall (um, bullshit, of course there is) or that he's a system admin (um, no, he's not.) Yet everyone is like "oh yeah, you are getting screwed, get out of there." Heck, I want that client. Let me know who they are. Sounds like someone that actually has a head on their shoulders.
-
Yeah I don't really see much wrong with their current setup. Only change I see that could be beneficial is a better equipment naming scheme (maybe, maybe not... i don't know what it is like currently) and clean up the racks a little bit.
No network access required to do that stuff.

Yeah, is there like two pieces of equipment? Who cares. I mean sure, take a few seconds and name it, but WTF, who cares. This place wasn't big enough for a single IT guy yesterday, how much can they need today?

The guy who posted sounds like he is crazy. The guy that has been there for years sounds reasonable.
The CEO is agreeing with my view, that the guy who has been around for years is to be trusted and the new guy demanding access and to spend money without justification should be blocked.

I'm glad I read the thread before reading any of everyone's comments here - it ensured I felt the way you all did entirely on my own.
Naming - yeah not great, but so what? it works for them.
No Firewall - seems very unlikely - but I suppose it's possible they have Internet IPs from their ISP, but still seems very unlikely. No endpoint protection - except what windows already has - personally, I'm moving away from 3rd party AV myself (haven't quite bit the bullet in this office yet). If they are small enough, central admin of AV just might not be needed.
Things having off the rack - this is a small SMB - so what? Is it awesome, of course not.. but again, it works, move on. -

The main issue I ask here is - why was this guy hired? The OP clearly thinks he's god's gift to IT, but really, why was he hired?

Yes, I'm wondering that, too. He doesn't seem to know what he needs to know to do the job he thinks he is there to do. he doesn't even seem to know the meaning of his own title. The CEO clearly doesn't agree with his belief as to his role. Something is certainly wrong.
Maybe this guy is like an intern who is mad that he isn't the manager? He said himself, he's been in politics and not tech for some time now.
