Just back from filing for our passport renewals. Only $500 for the family. Would have been $750 to expedite!
Ours are not all on the same cycle, but I know the feeling.
New Adult passports are $110
New Children passports are $80Adult passport Renewal is $110 cost is the same as new, but the paperwork is easier.
Children do not get renewed, they are done new again every 5 years. So what were your extra costs? Photo? Did you pay the post office for that part of the service also?
On top of 1 adult (me) and 2 child US passports, we have 1 adult (wife) and 2 child Japanese passports.
The consulate General Office of Japan website lists the following costs.
New Japanese passport is $133 for a 10 year or $95 for a 5 year Adult passport.
Children under 12 are $50. -

Ours were not but we moved them onto the same cycle this year. So after this one we will all be the same.

We definitely use the post office for the photos, they are just so convenient.

Since renewals are not a surprise, I usually hit Walgreens the day before for the passport photo.

No Walgreens near here. I know some places might offer the services, but I don't live here regularly and don't have any idea where it might be available. It would be a lot of work to track it down. I've looked into Walgreens when we were filing in Texas, but not in Rochester.

Watching "The Shannara Chronicles"
I binged the entire season last weekend. Honestly, I liked it. I thought it was a decent adaption.
Really, the only bad thing was that there were too many ruins left. If it had been a truly long time the ruins should have been pretty much gone.

Yeah double that for our kids too. With American and German ones (bio) it gets really expensive. Have to drive down to the consulate soon to get my daughters passport renewed...

It's just very odd when you know the real costs for the material. Don't want to get into detail, but a (paper) passport for $100 includes roughly 500-1000%+ of processing overhead.
