That has to start with the media! If the story went something like this.

Winona Ryder's account at XZY company was 'hacked' because she used a poor password that was easily guessable. I hope all of you other computer users out there learn from this and realize that you need to have a good, not easy to guess password on your accounts that can be accessed from anywhere in the world via the internet.

But that would never happen because that would be the media basically saying their readers are ... you choose your own word.

Geniuses. The readers are Geniuses. You have to be a genius to be so stupid you can get away with it.

I refused to install a second Facebook app once and I will do it again...

I wish I could say I can't believe they're coming out with another app, but Facebook Messenger was enough of a success that it really does make sense in a frustrating way. At what point will they have to rename their original app to Facebook Basic?

Everyone is doing this now. Google has at least 4 if not more Google Apps - On one hand it really makes sense, make each app do one job REALLY REALLY well. But they need to integrate with each other as well.

Microsoft and Apple do this too. Tons of apps.

True, to be honest I'm mainly just biased against Facebook as a company which discourages me from installing more of their apps.

Specifically, I really hate the way they decided to try and move people over to Messenger by showing messages sent to you via notifications without you being able to read them unless you download the app. It shows that the primary FB app still receives the messaging data and could still display it in full, but it won't. They patched their app to remove a feature but continue to download messages to serve as ads for their other app - boo to that IMO.

There's actually good reason for this. The Facebook app does not always run in the background updating this saves your battery (and data if you are super limited) Those in app notifications will not appear instantly but rather at select intervals. Facebook Messenger is a separate and more lightweight application that runs in the background and will update and notify about messages almost instantly.

Interesting, I didn't know about that difference. That does help to explain why they split things up, thanks for the explanation!

My only complaint is the incessant need to include my location with every post.

It doesn't. You can turn it off.

sure, but its always turning itself back on too.

                              It is? That's surprising.

Mine doesn't. Never had that happen on Windows phone, Android or iOS.
