USB as a Main Storage device
-
@scottalanmiller I toyed around with the config for a few hours (the above guide didn't work for me, a few of the options weren't there), and after trying different combinations of Virtual Drive settings, I now have the Raid 0 Configured, the USB virtual drives figured out if we want to use a single USB as both installation storage media, and I have XenServer installing now. The BIOS update didn't work, but it's all working properly without it. Turns out I had just not seen every setting. I'm not an expert on this stuff

Awesome, so we are moving forward!!
-
@scottalanmiller We certainly are!
-
Well @Mike-Ralston now you do know. Learning the best way possible.

Speaking of moving forward... What's the next step?
-
Is XenServer fully installed? We need XenCenter installed on the Windows box in the lab.
-
@scottalanmiller Both already done.
-
Sweet, is XenCenter attached to the XenServer so that you can see it from there?
-
@scottalanmiller No. How do I go about doing that?
-
Try this, on the XenCenter machine go to Add New Server in the XenCenter application. You'll need the IP address and root password of the XenServer that you just built.
-
@scottalanmiller Is that all?

Yep. XenCenter is fairly easy... until it is time to update the server.
-
@scottalanmiller Windows box that XenCenter was on was just being extremely sluggish. The XenServer and XenCenter are linked now, and I can see the drive on the server and it's information and such.
-
Awesome! Now the next step will be connecting the SAN to the XenServer. I'll be able to help with that. In theory I should have access to the XenCenter now.
-
@scottalanmiller Well, XenCenter is on the same machine that the Drobo is set up on.

That's very handy, everything in one place.
-
@scottalanmiller Mhmm. What do you need me to do next?
-
While I start looking into the SAN setup, how about building a second R510 with XenServer as well, and add that to XenCenter too. Nothing new, just the same process again.
-
@scottalanmiller Alright, will do.

Great.
