If the user wants to leave things open overnight the user can deal with things not being correct the next morning end of discussion

That is unrelated to the thread specifically. But yeah - I don't disagree... but again, management gets to rule the company.

Does the computer need to actually go to sleep mode?

        Does anyone still do that?

Need? Does any computer "need" to?

Nope, it doesn't need to - and FYI, I did change to stop sleeping on Tuesday, But haven't confirmed via the log that it's not still doing it... because I made those changes 10 days ago.. and it was still going to sleep afterwards.

I was just trying to justify the case of sleep there, but if it still happening it might something else on the power configuration.

We've got machines doing it that no one can stop. really sucks.

That is why I tell people the policy is to reboot every night before you leave for the day. Most people do... some don't. This is the exact reason why this is the policy.

Yup, I agree, end of day reboots are the smartest if you can get people to do it.

Most of our people do - the few (really the one) who doesn't is also the one in charge. I can't make them.

Sure you can. If it is company policy, you simply create a schedule task to reboot machines.

You, and others make it sound like I have a choice here - I only have two choices, perhaps three - 1) quit
                        2) according to you all ignore her
                        3) just stop talking to you all about trying to find solutions to provide to attempt to fix things.

No, you are missing the one thing we all recommend...

The CTJ talk. The talk where you give her the options and make her choose. You don't make up the options, you just enumerate the ones that exist.

No one has suggested any of the things you think we are recommending and missing the one choice we almost all agree on.

How many people as an FTE have done that and

                                1. still kept their jobs?
                                2. actually saw change?

That is why I tell people the policy is to reboot every night before you leave for the day. Most people do... some don't. This is the exact reason why this is the policy.

Yup, I agree, end of day reboots are the smartest if you can get people to do it.

Most of our people do - the few (really the one) who doesn't is also the one in charge. I can't make them.

Sure you can. If it is company policy, you simply create a schedule task to reboot machines.

                                  LOL - You're on a roll today!

Just stop covering up bad behavior.

Can you spell out those options, apparently I've missed them.. .I feel like I've already gave her said options.. and she chose the one not on the table - to do nothing and still complain about it.

At which point, my option option is to basically ignore her - stop caring, whatever you want to call it, it's basically the same thing.

You can come up with the range of known options. Examples:

                                    • Use Google Apps and live with their save mechanism.
                                    • Use local Excel and live with it's save options, either auto or off.
                                    • Use Excel online and live with its save options.
                                    • Use a different application, like OnlyOffice.
                                    • Use Excel with auto save but get a "save all changes" storage system like Exablox

Tell her what is possible, that's your job. Afix prices and info to each. Then make her decide. Then any complaints you just tell her "hey, talk to the person who made this decision... you".
