Every 3 meter square is assigned a combination of 3 words at random. That 3 word combination of 40000 words is unique in the entire world.
So if you remember your 3 word address, it's the only place in the world with that combination. Meaning you are in a universally unique location that can be given to someone.
Hey I'm at lolly.ranch.frame, see you soon.
Rather than "hey I'm at 154 elm street" which there are possibly hundreds of 154 elm streets or even multiple in the same region.
Remember that to use the three words, the person had to...
- Have a GPS coordinates
- Have access to the three word conversion system.
- Convert and memorize the three words.
- Convey those three words manually.
- Have the three words received and memorized.
- Have the person have access to convert the three words back to something useful.
- Get the GPS coordinates from the system
Or without the three words...
- Have GPS coordinates.
- Send GPS coordinates.
- Receiver must have GPS access.
The three word system requires all the complexity of the GPS system, but then adds many more dependencies that aren't useful.
Scott you're not seeing the forest for the trees today, are you?
I'm asking you to show me any tree.

Regions that are margially developed, like Brazil. There may be a few streets in an area all interconnected. But thousands of homes in that region.
Where people are literally walking through someone elses' home to get to the road.
You are assuming that people will be using old fashioned addresses, why? If the three word system depends on something else that already has been replaced, that makes it useless. The people in those remote locations can just send their GPS data today. Problem solved.
Why would I be assuming this? This way clearly stated for locations that don't and can't use old fashion addressing as it doesn't work in that region of the world.

Let's get back to... what is the use case for this bizarre system? Give example cases where it is in some way useful. But no example can include any case where GPS would have worked in the same situation.

That's my point exactly. The need for addresses is a solved problem that doesn't exist today. So, given the stated dependency of the three word system on something that doesn't exist as a problem, I assume you now agree that it is silly and pointless?

They claim that without an address, you live outside of the law and might as well not exist. What BS that is. The very basis for the entire video is based on an obvious falicy.

In the TED video, he provides examples of why he wanted this system... but in it proves that the three word system can't work. His truck driver went north of Rome instead of South. But if people get words wrong, the three word system is worse, rather than better, than other options.

TED talk also said that they wanted something simpler than GPS, but they made something more complex.

Yeah this is horrible for addresses, but could be great for GPS.
I live in a 2nd floor condo, so the person under me has the same exact address. This is useless for mail, but great for someone to physically drive to me by car. After that point, the person would have no idea which one I live in. Also, I live where 4 "squares" meet, so I can say my home has 4 addresses, and they are all completely different.

No, that's not a problem. People don't need to remember anything. That's the whole point, to use this system you need to be digital and the need for remembering addresses doesn't exist.

Governments can literally go around and paint the 3 word address of every home in the gutter cities of the world on the side of the building.
If there is an emergency all that needs to happen is you call for help and say Im at little.scotch.horse and then the help knows how to get directly to you.
Which it is way easier to paint 3 words on the side of every house then it is to paint the exact coordinates of every house with the minutes to be as pinpoint.

What part of the three word system alleviates that? They would still need a device to find their three word location and the person on the other end would still need a device to decipher the three word location.

No, that's not a problem. People don't need to remember anything. That's the whole point, to use this system you need to be digital and the need for remembering addresses doesn't exist.
No the point is to not rely on digital once every 3 meters is marked.
You're clearly missing it the forest for the trees.

Which you must in order for any reasonable scenario of using the three word system to exist. You never answered my key question... HOW does someone need this system in a scenario where they can't use GPS?
Every example case for three words didn't need three words to do what is given in the example.
