How to delete mangolassi account?
-
Hi,
I created a mangolassi account so I could keep an eye on discussions about my current employer. However, I'll be moving to a new company at the end of the month, so I'd like to delete the account.
However, I can't find where/how to delete the account. Am I staring right at it but not seeing it?
Thanks!
Kim

We do not allow accounts to be deleted. However we can lock the account so that it can be no longer used.
-
@Kimberley-Paessler who is your employer?
-
Just a guess...
-
@Kimberley-Paessler congrats on the new job.
If you like, you could get the account renamed and stick around. No need for your account to be tied to the company.
-
@scottalanmiller and @RojoLoco
Yes, currently working for Paessler. But only for 2 more weeks... I've just asked @Minion-Queen to lock the account for me. This account doesn't have any "history" (or reputation) worth saving, so I'll just create a new account for my personal use.
Thanks for your help!
-
@kimberley-paessler thanks. Look forward to seeing you return "in person."

@minion-queen something you will need to consider soon perhaps. gdpr right to erasure

I get why accounts shouldn't be deleted... it's nice to keep the information available for those that need it.
But I think accounts should be renamed when the display name contains personal information such as the name of that person, as well as other personal information from the users profile such as age/location/etc.
Perhaps renaming her account to "ex-Paessler-employee" would be better than leaving it as "Kimberley-Paessler" with her name in it.

I thought that law was only for the UK. Not sure why a US based forum would need to consider that.

It's EU.

@scottalanmiller still not US.

It is a grey area:
"More controversially, the GDPR also will apply to businesses established outside the EU if their processing activities relate to the offering of goods or services to individuals in the EU or to the monitoring of such individuals’ behavior. This provision expands the territorial scope of the GDPR well beyond the EU, essentially making it global law. There are some limits in place on the GDPR’s reach—the regulation makes clear that having a commerce-oriented website that is accessible to EU residents does not by itself constitute offering goods or services. Rather, a business must show intent to draw EU residents as customers, for example, by using a local language or currency."

Any company which has customer data from the EU should abide by it. I believe it isn't enforceable until 2018 for EU companies and 2019 for Non-EU based companies

Not enforceable ever for non-EU companies. That breaks international laws right there.

So I am referring to the EU Data Directive which is supposed to replace the Safe Harbor Law.
"On 4 May 2016, the official texts of the Regulation and the Directive have been published in the EU Official Journal in all the official languages. While the Regulation will enter into force on 24 May 2016, it shall apply from 25 May 2018. The Directive enters into force on 5 May 2016 and EU Member States have to transpose it into their national law by 6 May 2018."
http://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/
I cant find any information to confirm that non EU countries must abide by the Data Directive, but data handling techniques outside the EU are mentioned.

The only reason it applies to companies like Google for example... is because they are actually an established company in the EU (and most other countries).
Mangolassi, for example, would be a US only based company. So it wouldn't apply.
But imho, just because you don't have to, doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to offer the courtesy.

Sure, and people have that, they can just rename their accounts and poof it's taken care of.

Didn't know you could do that.
