Korora to DeepIn
-
Yesterday I moved from Korora to Deepin - it wasn't awful but it was somewhat of a challenge.
DeepIn would not install over Korora, so using GParted, I killed all the partitions and resized the second partition. I kept getting errors when doing so,.. but kept plugging along regardless. In the end, the Korora was gone and Vista wouldn't boot. I'd say that since I killed all but the Vista partition, I killed the partition with grub... Oops.
Got Deepin installed and update. No struggles there. And thus far - what a difference on the shut down.
Korora seemed to have some difficulty with the hardware, so it would stream a load of errors on shutdown before going off. I don't believe I had any system or application crashes - so over all the experience with Korora was good.
Deepin is a bit different. the desktop is more akin to the MACos with the bar at the bottom - at least the default setup. I've managed to install and add a few items to the bar, but of course it's now completely across the screen. I believe I may go back and remove those items from the bar, and add them to the desktop.
Beyond the native installed apps I have added:
- skype
- telegram
- pithos
Looking to install some of the other applications I use as well.. just not gotten to them yet:
- fldigi
- firefox
- keepass

I've found a lot of things about deepin to be very sleek. For example it's different desktop modes (I don't like my icons taking up half the page), such a simple thing but really makes my user experience even better.
