Driving technical questions to ML - what is being done?

Everyone on here is pretty technical so we like to answer questions more than ask them. Although I still do ask my share. There isn't any enough entry level people on here.
Exactly. We actually could use people who come, post a question, and disappear. We don't get enough foot traffic.
-
This is a constant discussion between the Grove Social Team and the NTG team. All of you guys are great but you are already technical and just don't have that many questions.

or are too proud to ask

Or we research it and figure it out ourselves. Pride does come into play though.
-
Word of mouth would help. If everyone told someone to come here with questions that would help.
-
@scottalanmiller I'm sure this wouldn't fly but maybe when someone post a question on SW you can PM them a link to a thread here and have the answer on a new thread? a bit unethical/sketchy though.
-
Yeah. Trying not to do stuff like that. Once in a while if people ask something that isn't kosher there (e.g. Like when they are asking about a SW alternative) I PM and tell them that that is better asked here but that is about it.
-
But reaching out to people that you know to tell them to check it out and see the incredible response to questions.... That's a good way to go.
-
One thing that I think that is important is that break/fix questions, while fine, are not the goal or the bread and butter here or on SW. SW is actually relatively poor for that. That's what ServerFault is for and nothing touches that.
Where ML is strong is opinion, design, planning and discussions where ideas are kicked around and discussed. It's a conversation platform, not just a single good answer.
-
So just getting conversations going - people kicking around ideas. That is what we need most.

It's the top concern. But no one knows how to bring in the people asking the questions.
Okay Sir, I am asking questions /help now

Agreed.

How does ML feel about double posting? I like to post some questions on SW because I know I will get more visibility there. I would also like to post them here sometimes, but generally double posting is frowned upon
-
A few people have done that. I don't see an issue with it from ML standpoint. Because Grove Social wants to be a very open forum they don't care
-
@IRJ Why not post both places? I hardly post over there anymore. I don't like the atmosphere. I like the openness of ML much better, but exposure is lower, that is true. Work on asking more questions to bring in more people!

I just double posted it here. I didnt do it previously because I thought it was frowned upon
-
There is a lot of double posting already.

I'm happy to ask more technical questions. I just didn't want to become a free rider. I don't work in a technical role. Most people on ML seem to work for IT companies rather than end users, to the extent that I've questioned whether I really belong here.
