If you do not know what you are doing, and this is actually important, hire someone.

I get paid for that level of support.

This should cover anything that you need to know to get Zimbra installed and up and running.

but when configuration is complete i tried to send email like [email protected] to [email protected] it not receiving..am confused where i went wrong.. i shud be able to send only internal domain.

So you are trying to send FROM Zimbra TO Zimbra, so in theory the email has never left the Zimbra server? One of the first, and most confusing things, is that Zimbra has to see itself as the owner of the domain, otherwise it will go out looking for it.

In Zimbra itself, the first things to check are the hostname of the box and that the domain you want to use have been set up. Then you want to ensure that your MX records correctly match what Zimbra believes.

@scottalanmiller yes i shud be able to send zimbra to zimbra , i dont need to send external domain(gmail, yahoo, etc) if this works then good,
but i followed your procedure only for some reason it did not work... maybe i might be doing work in DNS settings let me start from scratch..

My procedure is only to build the server. Setting up your domain still needs to be done. And that part is unique to you. Have you gotten your MX records set? Does the MX record match the hostname of the Zimbra server? Is Zimbra set to look to that hostname for resolution? Is DNS working on the host?

more detailed information on setting the MX Record will be really helpful.

Okay, have to start there as Zimbra demands that it be in place even for local email delivery.

How is your DNS for your internal domain handled? For us, our email domain still is public, so it is a public DNS that we need to modify. Is the domain that you are emailing one that is public, or just a fake, internal one?

Then on your main DNS host, you will need to make an MX entry that points to your new Zimbra server.

What DNS host do you have?

Also, the hostname issue is probably the bigger one. What are your settings there?

No, Windows DNS (there is no AD DNS) is for your local domain, not your public one.
