hello,
i wanted to know something about xenserver and citrix same product..
1-http://xenserver.org/open-source-virtualization-download.htmlfrom the above page i can download XenServer enterprise edition that is the open source version?
2-https://www.citrix.com/downloads/xenserver/product-software/xenserver-70-standard-edition.htmland from the second one i can download citrix xensever standart edition, becouse i do not get it??
-
@Alket_tux It's all the same - there is only 1 version.
-
@aaronstuder at the first site i found xenserver 7.1 whereas at the second the lattest is 7.0..
another thing,, this versions come with trial? i know about the second link, but what i am intersted is the first -
XenServer is identical from citrix.com or xenserver.org
Citrix used to own xenserver, but released it under GPL, the xenserver foundation now maintains it. And Citrix offers professional support for it.
It's all the same.
-
@Alket_tux i gues you are right :D.. the question is when i run lsb_release -irc i get:
xenenterprise 7.0.0. **** as i have downloaded xenserver 7..
but the download link says standart edition.. can you explain me which is free, or which edition i have?

Both are free.
Citrix will support both, although they likely have a preference to support the version downloaded from their site.
-
@DustinB3403 so citrix comes down to support, the edition i download is enterprise but i do not have citrix support?

Which is fine, it just means you're unsupported officially.
-
Mine also says xenenterprise (but I know I've downloaded my copy from xenserver.org)
-
@DustinB3403 actually the sites redirects me to citrix site, so i gues is the same.. what troubles me now is the edition..
how do i know that i have standart or enterprise?

Standard means (without paid support). Its the same exact code
in both versions.regardless where you download it from of the two sources mentioned. -
@DustinB3403 so the features of xenserver are the same, only it's name varies according to support?

Correct.
You aren't missing anything using the copy from xenserver.org or citrix.com it's identical.
-
Once you stand up your system you really should setup xen-orchestra.
-
@DustinB3403 thanks man,.. now i guess you know this but i am a bit confused,,
whith a trial licence from Citrix what do i get?
citrix support for the stated period? -
Here is a guide to install the community version.
Alternatively you can go to xen-orchestra.com and get the paid supported appliance.

Oh, are you using the XOA or the community edition?
-
If you're using the community edition, this update script is critical.
