Just went for a long walk up the hill looking for an open store. Nope.

One of my DCs just died. Noticed that the hard drive was nearly full (probably about time to replace SCOM with Icinga). Told the VM to shut down, took it nearly an hour. Added another 40GB to the VMs VHD, started it and bang: Bluescreen, disk full. The VM went into a reboot loop afterwards, ending up either in the recovery console or another blue screen.

Well, couldn't expand the filesystem this way, so I grapped a gparted ISO and the DC was online again just 5 minutes later.

Windows recovery tools couldn't expand the disk?

Probably, but I'm way more familiar with Linux (Scott: I'm abusing the term Linux here ;)) recovery (read: partition and filesystem management) tools than I am with Windows tools.

Are you running a 2003 DC? You can expand disks on 2008 and 2012 without a shutdown.

2008 R2 at the moment (2003 is EOL, you shouldn't even think about running it in 2017).

Yes, you can expand filesystems during runtime (that's what I am doing in most cases), but you can't expand an underlying Hyper-V Gen 1 VHD while the VM is powered on.

Why? Extended support until 2020. And Windows Server Datacenter licenses aren't exactly cheap 😉 Would also need to upgrade my CALs.

Because of the unseasonably warm winter, everything here is blooming far too early. Cherry trees started last week, those usually bloom in March. I'm sure we will have one more hard freeze, so I hope we have some flowers left for actual spring.

A friend of mine is dealing with an ant infestation in his basement brought on by the warmer than typical weather here.

We get them in our downstair bathroom every time it get warm.

It's quite unsettling when you have to be sitting there for a while.

I got bitten by a mosquito in January. These are the end days.

I like straight up regular potato vodka. It's spicy and tangy - makes the best martinis.

Go bite into a raw potato if you've never done it before. They really do have a bit of a bite to them. Delicious.

Or take a mouthful of wet sand. Pretty close to the same experience.

On a related note, I need to build my distillation apparatus soon and start fermenting some potatoes.

Russian standard paint stripper right there.

Get yourself some Polish or Lithuanian wodka.

There is a company called Corbin that makes sweet potato vodka in the US. It wins awards apparently.

I like straight up regular potato vodka. It's spicy and tangy - makes the best martinis.

Go bite into a raw potato if you've never done it before. They really do have a bit of a bite to them. Delicious.

Or take a mouthful of wet sand. Pretty close to the same experience.

I eat raw potatoes right out of the ground! Wipe off the dirt on your pants and have at it. They're tasty when they're fresh!

Maybe I've bitten the wrong variety of potato. What I've had of raw potatoes does not align with your experience. 🙂

Baking potatoes are the best to eat raw. The waxy ones are NFG
